I started reading the book of Proverbs the other night and found the study so relevant to the events affecting those that were in the path of Super storm Sandy… We have heard the reports of looting, even criminals dressing up as utility workers and then proceeding to rob people during this time of crisis. Others are fighting over gas. We are a nation in crisis.
What does Proverbs 1 say?
10 My son, if sinners entice thee, consent thou not.
11 If they say, Come with us, let us lay wait for blood, let us lurk privily for the innocent without cause:
12 Let us swallow them up alive as the grave; and whole, as those that go down into the pit:
13 We shall find all precious substance, we shall fill our houses with spoil:
14 Cast in thy lot among us; let us all have one purse:
15 My son, walk not thou in the way with them; refrain thy foot from their path:
16 For their feet run to evil, and make haste to shed blood.
17 Surely in vain the net is spread in the sight of any bird.
Just as a net is cast to trap a bird he flies into it knowing it is to his own detriment.
18 And they lay wait for their own blood; they lurk privily for their own lives.
Why do they lay in wait for their own blood? By doing this evil to their fellow man they will be punished with death for their deed.
19 So are the ways of every one that is greedy of gain; which taketh away the life of the owners thereof.
Be not a partaker of evil deeds. For they will lead you down the rocky path of destruction. Uplift your fellow man, not take down. Rather strive to do right by the Lord and be rewarded by God…
1 Corinthians 6
8 Nay, ye do wrong, and defraud, and that your brethren.
9 Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind,
10 Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.
Be not partakers of these evil deeds. If you know someone who is, ask them to turn away and rather seek God where eternal life can be found.
Many people think God’s Word is just fire and brimstone. Do this and you will be punished. Yes there are laws. However, God’s Word talks even more so about the rewards the righteous will inherit. Not just eternal life in paradise which is a most graceful reward indeed. We’ll talk more about this topic in the near future.
