Question 1:

Name: Lance
Question: In Matthew 17:19-21 there is a demon that could not be removed but by prayer and fasting. Some believe that those demons still exist and that prayer and fasting is still necessary to defeat those demons. I personally do not believe this. I know with faith and belief, we have power over all enemies through Christ Jesus. Am I correct in thinking those more difficult demons are just as susceptible to His name as any other demon?

Answer:

Name: Brandon T. Ward
Answer: Thank you for the question Lance.

Do those evil spirits still exist? Absolutely. Is there one behind every bush? Absolutely not. You are correct in thinking with faith and belief through the name of Jesus Christ we have power over our enemies. Let us document that.

Luke 10:17
17 “And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name.”

Documenting through the name of Christ we have power over our enemies. However, a strong faith is required.

Luke 10:18
18 “And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven.”

Notice how Christ interjects Satan with respect to us having power over evil spirits in the name of Christ. We should also note this is a future event at the sounding of the sixth trumpet.

Luke 10:19
19 “Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.”

Jesus Christ makes it very clear we have power over all of our enemies including Satan. We can reference these scorpions in Revelation 9 and in Revelation 12:7-9 Satan is defined as the serpent. I want to make it clear to everyone, we should be thinking about our spiritual enemies here, not literal serpents and scorpions which can definitely kill you (Ephesians 6).

Having laid some ground work, please turn your Bible with me to,

Matthew 17:14-16
14 “And when they were come to the multitude, there came to him a certain man, kneeling down to him, and saying,”

15 “Lord, have mercy on my son: for he is lunatick, and sore vexed: for ofttimes he falleth into the fire, and oft into the water.”

16 “And I brought him to thy disciples, and they could not cure him.”

This man’s son was possessed with an evil spirit, one so wicked even the disciples could not cast it out.

Matthew 17:17
17 “Then Jesus answered and said, O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you? bring him hither to me.”

Christ was a bit disappointed that His disciples could not get the job done. This is a great example for us…

Matthew 17:18
18 “And Jesus rebuked the devil; and he departed out of him: and the child was cured from that very hour.”

We are not talking about Satan himself. “Devil” used here is Strong’s word 1140 and it means, “a daemonic being“. While the word Devil used to describe Satan is 1228 and specifically means “Satan“.

Matthew 17:19
19 “Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, Why could not we cast him out?”

Pay very close attention.

Matthew 17:20-21
20 “And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.”

21 “Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.”

Christ words, “Because of your unbelief“…

Three times Christ would tell the disciples “ye of little faith(Matthew 8:26, 16:8, Luke 12:28) and how could we forget Peter walking on water only to sink when he took his eyes off Christ (Matthew 14:25-31).

The Disciples walked with Christ, witnessed the miracles and still had a lack of faith. I always find that difficult to grasp, but these are Christ’s Words. The point here is all evil spirits including Satan are subject to us through the name of Jesus Christ. However, not just anyone can cast out every evil spirit as just documented. One must have full faith and be at a good spiritual point in order to overcome the evil. This is why Christ would say by prayer and fasting. Fasting clears the mind and allows you to focus on the spiritual aspect and removes so much of the flesh that can get in the way.

Question 2:

Name: James
Question: Is the flat earth in the Bible?

Answer:

Name: Brandon T. Ward
Answer: James thank you for the question.

None of the prophets ever thought the earth was flat, this is a myth that has carried on for sometime though. Please turn your Bible with me to,

Isaiah 40:21
21 “Have ye not known? have ye not heard? hath it not been told you from the beginning? have ye not understood from the foundations of the earth?”

22 “It is he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in:”

Documented right from our Father’s Letter, the earth is round. Our Father’s Word is so complete and provides clarity on so many levels. The book of Isaiah was written in the year 649 B.C.. This was far before Columbus who was supposedly the first person to discover the earth was round in 1492 A.D., which is roughly 2,000 years after the time of Isaiah. Our Father is very intelligent and He passes that information on to those who love Him and follow His Word.

Question 3:

Name: David
Question: I have just finished reading the Pentateuch, (again) but I am confused. What, when and how are we to observe things such as Passover today? I know the blood rituals were nailed to the cross and I know that Jesus became our Sabbath. I’m trying to figure out how to follow God’s commands with regards these matters. Thank you.

Answer:

Name: Brandon T. Ward
Answer: David, thank you for the question.

I think it is outstanding you want to dive deeper into His Word David and it sounds like you are doing a good job. I ask that you read Q2 from a previous Bible Q&A on 8-15-2015. In that Bible Q&A we went very deep into this topic and provided the scripture documentation you are looking for. You are correct, Christ nailed blood sacrifice to the cross and those feast days of old were surrounded in blood. Take the time to read that Bible Q&A, I believe it will help you.

Regarding Passover, again it sounds like you are already on the right track. Christ became our Sabbath and He also became our Passover as documented in 1 Corinthians 5:7. We should still honor Passover, it is the Highest Holy Day in Christianity. However, we do not perform sacrifice as Christ was the sacrifice for one and all times. Instead we take Communion to honor our Lord and Savior. We have a Bible study on this topic that I would like you to read after the Bible Q&A titled, “Passover: Why We Should Be Celebrating It As Christians“.

Between these two links I believe you will have clarity and understanding regarding this subject. Before you read, ask our Father for wisdom and understanding of His Word. Thank you.

Question 4:

Name: Mark
Question: When the antichrist stands in the Holy place, where is that exactly? Is it in Jerusalem or mount Moriah or at the dome of the rock.

Answer:

Name: Brandon T. Ward
Answer: Thank you for the question Mark.

The antichrist who is Satan is going to imitate every aspect of our Lord and Savior’s return. Jesus Christ is going to return to the Mount of Olives, let us document that. Please turn your Bible with me to,

Acts 1:11-12
11 “Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.”

12Then returned they unto Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is from Jerusalem a sabbath day’s journey.”

I believe Satan will also appear on the Mount of Olives as he is the great imitator. All throughout scripture Satan has tried to imitate Christ or our Father. Satan and Christ are both known as the Morning Star as one example of many. We documented a lot of this in our study titled, “Satan’s Sin“. If you have not read it, I would encourage you to do so.

For reference, see the map below. The Mount of Olives is just outside of the Old City of Jerusalem.

Specifically where will Satan step foot when he enters Jerusalem? That is anyone’s guess, mine would be the Dome of the Rock. At that point it will not matter as we will see Satan make a great appearance on the Mount of Olives and we will know in fact it is time to wage the Spiritual Battle of a lifetime.

We would like to thank our Father for giving us this platform in order to spread His most precious Word. We would also like to thank our readers for submitting their questions and giving us the opportunity to share them with the audience. If you would like to ask a question submit it for the next edition of this post and continue the discussion by leaving a comment below. Previous editions of Bible Q&A can be found in our archive.
