Welcome to our bi-weekly post Bible Question, Answer and Discussion where we provide Bible verses, answers and advice to the questions and concerns you have. During the course of the last two weeks readers have submitted their questions and today we are going to answer some of them. So please join us and feel free to chime in on the discussion in the comments section below this post.
Before we get into this week’s questions we would like to point out that you are helping to spread the Word of God by your continued submission of questions. Because of your ongoing participation these Q&A posts have been read thousands of times. Without your participation this section of our site would not exist. So if you have a Biblical or non-Biblical question you would like to ask, submit it now for our next edition of “Bible: Question, Answer and Discussion“.
Question: In Revelation 21 God describes all the things that would happen and then calls it the first world age. How do you explain this?
Name: Brandon T. Ward
Answer: Thank you for the question Linda.
The first thing we need to remember is our Father’s Word does not contradict itself. If we ever find a “contradiction” we have either read incorrectly or our belief of the scriptures is incorrect and needs to be re-evaluated.
Please turn your Bible with me to,
2 Peter 3:5
5 “For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water:”
By whose word were the Heavens of old? The Word of God. What is being described in this verse is The First Earth Age where Satan rebelled against our Father.
2 Peter 3:6
6 “Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished:”
The world that then was. Yes, there was an entirely separate age where man was in their true bodies which are their spiritual bodies that never get sick old or die. God destroyed that age due to Satan’s Sin.
2 Peter 3:7
7 “But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.”
This absolutely documents two separate periods of time for us. The world that then was, was destroyed by water and we are not talking about Noah’s flood here. While that world that then was saw its demise due to a complete global flood, this present earth age will be destroyed by fire. We have a complete study on this subject that clearly documents there was another earth age before the one we presently live in. It is the key to understanding why we exist in the flesh to begin with. I highly recommend you read, “The World That Then Was, The First Earth Age“.
Now let us turn our Bibles to the verse you mentioned,
1 “And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.”
This would appear to be a contradiction, but we know from the scriptures we just read there was in fact another earth age before the one we live in today. So what do we need to do? “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, rightly dividing the word of truth,” (2 Timothy 2:15).
So let us do that. We know the Bible has been translated from a few different languages into English so we can understand our Father’s Word. Even the King James Bible has numerous errors and this is yet one more. The word “first” is 4413 in the Strong’s Concordance and it can also mean “before” and “former“. As a matter of fact this word comes from the base 4253 which means “in front of” and “prior“.
With that said, I believe this verse would have been better translated as “the former heaven and the former earth were passed away” as that is exactly what will occur.
Question: In Matthew 24: 32 -34 Jesus says of the generation of the fig tree, This generation shall not pass till all these things be fulfilled. So if the generation of the fig tree began in 1948 can we not to some degree assume that the day of the Lord (the millennium) is close at hand?
Name: Brandon T. Ward
Answer: Thank you David. I am really glad you asked this question. I am going to share some general thoughts on this subject that I have had on my mind for a while.
You had another comment about generations in the Bible. God’s Word mentions a generation a few different times ranging from 40 years, 70 years and 120 years.
Most of our readers believe the end of this age of flesh is close at hand and I would agree with them. How close is another question. Remember, “one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day,” (2 Peter 3:8). To put this into terms we can more easily grasp and make us all feel a little insignificant we should understand one of God’s days is equal to 365,000 of our days or 8,760,000 of our hours. Literally, a blink of God’s eye is equal to hundreds of our days.
Am I hopeful the end of this age will come to our generation? Yes I am and I believe it will.
However, I am concerned that many people are going to lose their faith when 2018 comes and goes. Most of Christianity is aware the fig generation started (or at least we think it did) in 1948 and the 70 year generation is commonly referenced as the span of time that would transpire until Christ returns. Why? The life span of man is roughly 70 years give or take a few so there is a good fit.
However, I have to caution the generation could be 120 years. Something else to consider, Jerusalem was not re-captured by the nation named Israel until 1967 so the generation could start from ’67 as well. With that scenario we could be looking at 2087 as the ending of the generation or we could be completely wrong.
None of that makes any of us feel warm and fuzzy, but that has never been my goal. My goal has always been and will always be to share God’s Word and how it relates to what we are seeing take place in the world. You will never hear me set a date, because dates come and they go and so does your credibility.
One thing is certain, prophecy is unfolding extremely fast and the pace continues to accelerate. While writing the “Signs and Seasons” articles the last few years I am amazed looking from one year to the next and the enormous escalation in world events. Simply look at the articles we posted this week alone. It used to take 6 months to a year to read some of those headlines and now it all happens in a week.
I caution everyone, not to set any dates. Dates simply provide an opportunity to allow doubt to creep into our minds, there is no good that comes from them. I will speak for myself and say, if it turns out that I die of old age I will be okay with that.
Whether or not 2018 comes and goes, that should not change anything for us. Our goal, our purpose is to stand by God and we are all going to do that until the very end…
We would like to thank our Father for giving us this platform in order to spread His most precious Word. We would also like to thank our readers for submitting their questions and giving us the opportunity to share them with the audience. If you would like to ask a question submit it for the next edition of this post and continue the discussion by leaving a comment below. Previous editions of Bible Q&A can be found in our archive.
