“And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.”
Our Father’s Word is very complete, it covers all the angles. In verses 1-2 children are told to honor their parents as it is right in the Lord’s sight. It makes Him happy to see a child growing up in His Word.
Verse 3 tells us when we honor our parents we are granted a long life on the earth. There are always rewards for those who listen to the instruction of our Father.
Verse 4 covers the parents, the other side of this coin. While the children are to honor their parents, it is the parents job to bring the child up in a good Christian home, educating them in the Word. Not in the denomination, but the Word of God.
It is the duty of the father (and mother) not to provoke your child to anger. Do not incite your child to anger, that becomes very mean spirited and will drive the child away from you and God. Treat your child how you want to be treated and discipline your child when they need correction (Proverbs 13:24).
Happy Father’s Day to you and our Heavenly Father!
