“My son, hear the instruction of thy father, and forsake not the law of thy mother: For they shall be an ornament of grace unto thy head, and chains about thy neck.”
We are talking about our earthly father’s in this case, but we certainly can and should apply this to our Heavenly Father as well.
If we are raised in a Christian home then the instruction we have been given certainly should set us off on the right foot in life. Our upbringing may not be perfect, but we were set in the right direction. This wise instruction by our parents is considered an “ornament” or a wreath that is placed on our head and is a “chain” or necklace around our neck. It is honor and pride in following the example that was placed before us.
If we continue reading you will understand some of this wise instruction is in regard to how we should treat and react to sinners who come to us in an attempt to get us to sin. Of course we should never embrace it. I encourage you to read verses 10-19 for yourself.
