Today’s verse of the day is Genesis 3:14-16. When you read these three verses, forget about what you may or may not know about this event. Just read those three verses and think to yourself, what is really going on here?
In verse 14, God told the serpent, “Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle“.
Continue reading each of these verses yourself.
What we should understand is serpents, that would be snakes have always been snakes. They have always moved around on their bellies. Serpents also do not eat dust and serpents certainly cannot understand the speech of God.
So what is going on here?
We simply have symbology mixed with a statement of degradation toward Satan who is the “serpent“, (Revelation 12:9). Meaning, this “serpent” was to be lower than anything else on the face of the earth, “because thou hast done this“.
You can read from the top of the chapter to find out, but we will provide some material in a moment.
In verse 15, God continues talking to the serpent who we now know is Satan, “I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed“.
“Enmity” is “hostility“. So God is telling Satan the serpent I will put “hostility” between Satan’s “seed” and Eve’s “seed“.
What kind of “seed” are we talking about here?
In this verse “Seed” means “posterity, child”. So we are talking about a “hostility” that would exist between the “seed” or “child” of Satan the serpent and the “seed” or “child” of Eve.
So far, just reading the verses for themselves we can see this is not that hard to understand right?
Of course not, let’s finish the last verse.
In verse 16, God now turns to the woman who is Eve and says to her, “I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children“.
We can now see, the subject is children, the ‘seeds‘ we learned about are in fact children.
In summary, our Father stated,
‘Because the serpent Satan hast done this… I will put enmity between… thy seed and her seed… and God would greatly multiply Eve’s sorrow and her conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children’.
We can clearly see the entire subject is around children, I think we all know how children are formed right?
So why then would God be upset with Satan with respect to Eve and why are children being discussed? If you are asking yourself that you are starting to understand what really happened in the Garden of Eden.
I encourage you to take a deeper dive into this subject. We have Bible study on this subject titled, “The Garden of Eden: The Origins of Satan’s Seed“. If you are not ready for the study, then take a couple of minutes to read this Bible Q&A on the subject as well.
