Target hackers stole encrypted bank PINs

(Reuters) – The hackers who attacked Target Corp and compromised up to 40 million credit cards and debit cards also managed to steal encrypted personal identification numbers (PINs), according to a senior payments executive familiar with the situation.

One major U.S. bank fears that the thieves would be able to crack the encryption code and make fraudulent withdrawals from consumer bank accounts, said the executive, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because the data breach is still under investigation.

Christmas Lights? Electricity Price Index at All-Time High in U.S.

(CNS News) – Turning on the Christmas lights on a house or a Christmas tree this November cost Americans more on average than it has before, as the seasonally adjusted electricity price index hit an all-time high in the United States in November, according to data released last week by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The average price for a kilowatt hour of electricity also set a record for the month of November, according to BLS.

During the year, electricity prices tend to bottom out in the late fall, winter and early spring and hit a peak in the summer. Electricity prices followed that pattern this year, but in each month of the year they set a record for that particular month—n.b. electricity was more expensive in January 2013 than in any previous January, etc.

Far From Happy Christmas for Christians in the Holy Land

WEB Notes: While most of us will enjoy a Christmas with our family and friends in a warm home with full bellies… Our Christian brothers and sisters in the Middle East are not as fortunate. They are suffering for their faith, they are loosing their homes and lives. Please pray for God to direct them to safety if it be His will in Jesus Name Amen.

(Liberty Voice) – The Christians who still live in the Holy Land face a Christmas that will be far from happy, merry or bright. They are a persecuted minority.

O Little Town of Bethlehem, how still we see thee lie…” This hymn, and dozens like it will be sung all over the world soon, as they are every Christmas. Cards depicting the scene of the holy birth will decorate millions of houses.  Nativities will be set up in homes, in shopping malls, in churches.  But as people prepare to celebrate the humanity of a man known as Jesus of Nazareth, his homeland is no longer a safe place to be for those who follow him.

There are 14 million Christians throughout the Holy Land but they are a rapidly dwindling minority. Many of them are so desperately vulnerable that they feel they have no choice now but to emigrate. In Iraq alone, since the fall of Saddam, a startling two-thirds have fled.  Since 2003 at least a million have left. Most of them went to Syria. Now they face a second wave of displacement as they are no longer protected there.  There have been reports of rape, murder and attacks directed at them and the Christian community lives in terror.  When they feel they have to run for their lives they head for Turkey, Jordan and Lebanon. It is said that the ancient Syrian Armenian community has all but gone.

100 Years of Financial Terrorism

(Activist Post) – December 23, 1913 will live in infamy. Three days before Christmas, House members passed the Federal Reserve Act (FSA).

On December 23, Senate members did so. President Woodrow Wilson was a tool of big money. He was JP Morgan’s man in Washington. He signed FSA into law straightaway. He acted disgracefully.

So did Congress. It passed FSA in the middle of the night. Most congressional members hadn’t read it.

They wouldn’t have understood it anyway. It was cleverly worded to deceive them. Only its creators knew its purpose. Ellen Brown explained what happened as follows:

Senate adjourns after passing resolution condemning Iran

WEB Notes: Iran originally backed out of the negotiations because Obama and company pushed new sanctions in the middle of peace talks. Now we see more sanctions being pushed. It should be obvious to everyone by now the intention is not for peace, but war. Obama will say we tried the path of peace but it failed leaving us no other option but war…

(From The Trenches) – The Senate adjourned Friday afternoon, after a week full of passing a bipartisan budget deal, the Defense spending bill and confirming several of President Obama’s nominees.

On Thursday night, it was unclear if the Senate would have to continue to work on nominations through the weekend, but as it is often threatened and rarely occurs, it was not surprising that Senate leaders reached an agreement to avoid a prolonged schedule.

The drills began Thursday in the south of Iran near the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global shipping lane that Tehran has threatened to attack and choke off in the past.
