While that sounds nice, if there bills stay the same they will not be able to afford their homes and to even feed their families. Of course if corporations lowered their profit margins we could all probably work a couple days a week and be just fine.

Sierra Nevada seasonal snowpack lowest in the last 500 years

WEB Notes: They determined this by tree ring data. I do not doubt this, it is extremely dry in this region. It is predicted the West will have an El Nino event this year which would bring much needed rain. Hopefully it will add to the snow pack as well. Of course intense flooding is never good, but it beats the alternative of no water.

Drought May Prompt Californians to Let Personal Hygiene Slide

WEB Notes: The drought is bad, but I feel it is being hyped a bit. Now I have heard of some small towns running out of water. The article shows a picture of a couple woman who they say are skipping showers. If they are doing that it is not because the water is gone. Remember, Nestle? They have a division that bottles water and one of their major sources in Sacramento city water. I have not heard of them shutting down that plant yet, so this kind of shows you where we are in my opinion. The lake levels are very low. If CA has another winter like the last the reservoirs really will be close to dry.

Washington Governor Declares Drought Emergency

(Source: NY Times) – Gov. Jay Inslee declared a statewide drought emergency for Washington on Friday, with mountain snowpack at 16 percent of average and water levels in rivers and streams drying to a trickle not seen since the 1950s. He said that residents should also be prepared for an early and active fire season that could reach higher elevations in the Cascade and Olympic mountain ranges, where many spots are already completely clear of snow.
