Apostasy: Pope Francis Claims Atheists Who Do "Good" Are Redeemed. What Does God Say? - Christian Fish Symbol in StoneBy: Brandon T. Ward

The time of darkness is nigh at hand. It would seem as though everything around us is changing for the worse. Right is wrong and wrong is right. Mainstream Christianity is no exception. Pope Francis stated, ‘you do not need to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ to be saved, but rather Christ dying on the cross was all that was required for everyone to be saved.’ This is an absolute contradiction of God’s Word! The Pope stated this with reference to Mark 9:38-40.

“They complain,” the Pope said in his homily, because they say, “If he is not one of us, he cannot do good. If he is not of our party, he cannot do good.” And Jesus corrects them: “Do not hinder him, he says, let him do good.” The disciples, Pope Francis explains, “were a little intolerant,” closed off by the idea of possessing the truth, convinced that “those who do not have the truth, cannot do good.” “This was wrong . . . Jesus broadens the horizon.” Pope Francis said, “The root of this possibility of doing good – that we all have – is in creation”

Let us look at the scriptures to see what was spoken of in this account.

Mark 9:38
38 “And John answered him, saying, Master, we saw one casting out devils in thy name, and he followeth not us: and we forbad him, because he followeth not us.”

39 “But Jesus said, Forbid him not: for there is no man which shall do a miracle in my name, that can lightly speak evil of me.”

40 “For he that is not against us is on our part.”

We are talking about casting out evil spirits in Jesus Christ’s name, not merely being “good” as the Pope would like to imply. In order to cast out an evil spirit you must believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and have a strong faith which is something an atheist would not possess.

The Pope would continue in his statement,

“The Lord created us in His image and likeness, and we are the image of the Lord, and He does good and all of us have this commandment at heart: do good and do not do evil. All of us. ‘But, Father, this is not Catholic! He cannot do good.’ Yes, he can… “The Lord has redeemed all of us, all of us, with the Blood of Christ: all of us, not just Catholics. Everyone! ‘Father, the atheists?’ Even the atheists. Everyone!”.. We must meet one another doing good. ‘But I don’t believe, Father, I am an atheist!’ But do good: we will meet one another there.

It would seem many cling to the words of man, instead of listening to the Word of God. How can we all be so quick to forget the most recited verse of all?

John 3:16
16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

There is a qualification, a requirement on your part. You have to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ in order to have everlasting life. Let us look at a second witness to this fact.

Romans 10:9
9 “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.”

10 “For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.”

Again, action is required on your part in order to receive salvation. You must believe Jesus Christ is the Son of God who was raised from the dead.

Those who would twist and manipulate God’s Word to suit their own agenda should be very weary and think twice. It would be wise for the Pope to carefully consider the following verses from God’s Word.

Isaiah 5:20
20 “Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!”

21 “Woe unto them that are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight!”

23 “Which justify the wicked for reward, and take away the righteousness of the righteous from him!”

The aforementioned was a warning to those who would try to lead the flock astray. The following contains advice and a warning for all of us.

2 Timothy 3:13
13 “But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.”

14 “But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them;”

15 “And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.”

The Corruption of the Church

The church of today has become absolutely corrupted by the traditions of men. We were told this would happen in,

2 Timothy 4:3-4
3 “For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;”

4 “And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.

Throughout history the church has become polluted by man who instead of listening to God’s Word replaces it with their own doctrines. For this reason God has cleansed the church many times throughout history by kicking out the false teachers along with their doctrines and bringing the church back to order.

At the time of Moses, the Israelites beheld the Ten Plagues of Egypt which were absolute miracles. Those plagues harmed only the Land of Egypt having no effect on the Land of Goshen where the Israelities dwelt. The final plague was so damning it led to the Exodus of Egypt and marked the Passover. During the Exodus the Israelities witnessed the miracles in the wilderness including the Red Sea Crossing. Yet, days later they constructed a golden calf and began to worship it. Quickly forgetting about God who had delivered them from 400 years of bondage in Egypt.

In King Josiah’s time the church had completely left God and resorted to idol worship. King Josiah at the young age of 26 years went and destroyed all of the idols in the land, restored the temple and turned his people back to God. Even making a covenant with the Lord “to walk after the Lord, and to keep his commandments, and his testimonies, and his statutes, with all his heart, and with all his soul. (2 Chronicles 34)”

When Christ walked the earth a mere 600 years later the church had become so corrupt they could not recognize He was the Messiah and killed Him! Our Lord and Savior proclaimed the traditions of men would trump His Word in Matthew 15:9 stating, But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.

It has now been 2000 years since Christ, how much truth has the church lost in that time? How much corruption has crept in? How much of God’s Word are you taught by your house of worship?

“I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” – Jesus Christ, (John 14:6)

That is God’s Word which is uncorrupted Truth! Who shall you believe, God or man?

  1. Hi Brandon. Did you receive my last response? Thank you.

  2. To me the reading of this implies that God can deliver ANYONE, so long as they are of a willing nature. If an atheist is “doing good”, they are more likely to meet those who follow the Lord in their journey. If they “meet there”, it is a step and an opportunity for the Christian to be a channel for God’s love to open the door of the atheist’s heart and allow the Holy Spirit to awaken within them. Personally, I support this Pope for his inclusion of non-believers in a message of hope. Many of us were at one time non-believers and without the patient, kind and forgiving path that that the Lord laid out, we would not have chosen to follow Him. Those who condemned my non-belief without trying to understand my reasons only drove me away as proof that their God was unloving, impatient and angry.

Many atheists have been hurt by the world and cannot imagine a God who would allow such suffering. They already see God as cold and condemning. The Pope has given a message that they too are important to and loved by God. I believe it is intended as an offering of comfort and peace to a world that needs to better understand a Loving God. It is an outreach towards bringing people closer to God, including atheists. He does not say that they are saved, only that we can “meet there” in doing good. What about those of us Christians who might be faith filled but without good works? James 2:14-17, (KJV): “14 What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him? 15 If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food, 16 And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit? 17 Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.”

I see the Popes message as an instruction for believers. By interacting lovingly with non-believers, as Jesus did, we can perhaps serve as a channel for God’s grace, mercy and salvation in their lives. Perhaps God will use them as well to teach us lessons such as perseverance, understanding and compassionate action, since we are sinners too. I do not purport to know God’s plans, but I know that Jesus is our model and that His desire is to bring all of us to salvation. Isaiah 45:22; God said, “Turn to Me, and be saved, all the ends of the earth.” Timothy 2:3-4; “For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour; Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.” Thank you for all of the insight and inspiration that this website offers. May God continue to bless and guide your message.

    • Thank you for the comment. The Pope did not outline what you said in your first paragraph Laurie, those are your own thoughts. But that is not what he said.

“Lean not unto thine own understanding” (Proverbs 3:5-6). God never said to smite a non-believer. What is the great commission we all have? To share the Gospel with the world. Why? To convert people, to make non-believers believe. So common sense tells us right there our Father wants to save everyone and that is scriptural.

      2 Peter 3:9
“The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.”

That seems pretty clear to me.

So when a man called “the pope” disregards God’s Word and adds in extra books and tells us atheists who do good are redeemed… He is a liar. Plain and simple and he speaks against the Bible.

      John 14:6
“Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”

No one has eternal life without Christ. That is Biblical and just plain common sense.

Look, if an atheist has a question he is more than welcome to ask it on our site. I have meet many atheists in my time who have a very confused outlook on Christianity thanks to all of the false teachings and I believe that is why we have much unbelief. It is our job to help them find the narrow path. It is not our job to lie to them and provide false hope.

      Thank you Laurie.

  3. Great Bible commentary! What’s happening today in the religious sphere demonstrates the spirit of humanistic, Babylonish one-worldism entering in upon the world. When the four winds of Revelation 7 begin to blow, the very first of the “four beasts” that rise in Daniel chapter 7 represents the spirit of humanistic, Babylonish one-worldism engulfing the world as a substitute for what God’s Word actually says. This pope seems to be laying the groundwork for that first beast.

  4. I had a funny feeling about this pope. He tends to play to the crowd rather than stand by the biblical teachings that are printed in black and white. If good works could save our souls, then why did Christ have to be sacrificed in the first place? He’s contradicting the entire point of Jesus’ death on the cross. A lot of people are going to get too comfortable with this wide path. I am worried.

  5. ummmmm He’s not pope last time I looked so why all the hoohah ? Popes cannot teach error remember ? God saves NO-ONE against their will. If we reject him no matter what ‘good’ we are doing, he will reject us. Sorry and all that to the bleeding hearts out there but the 1st Commandment IS the most important

  6. If you confuse the church with the house of Isra-El, then you will never understand prophecy. Although related, they are not the same! Otherwise a good article.

  7. To answer your question, God says he is very angry at the pope. How many times does God have to tell everyone to teach what He says and not the traditions of man. People are idiots and make up their own religion making void the word of God. Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees. Christ warned us, you would think the pope would listen to what Christ said. The pope claims to be a Christian, but Christians follow Christ they do not make their own rules that go against Christ. So going by the actions of the pope I would say by definition, he is not a Christian. He is in fact leading his followers to Satan. You do not have to know every word in the bible to know how God feels about that. He is angry.

    • Why would the pope say something stupid like that, it makes no sense. It is not like the atheists are going to give money to his church. He must be doing it to help setup the one world religion that goes with the one world government and the one world economy. At what point did the Popes stop being Christian and fall into this everybody is saved crap, is this the first one? Well, time is short, he is sure to be the last one.
