Bible Question and Answer
Welcome to our bi-weekly post where we provide Bible verses, answers and advice to the questions and concerns you have. During the course of the last two weeks readers have submitted their questions and today we are going to answer some of them. So please join us and feel free to chime in on the discussion in the comments section below this post.

Before we get into this week’s questions we would like to point out that you are helping to spread the Word of God by your continued submission of questions. Because of your ongoing participation these Q&A posts have been read thousands of times. Without your participation this section of our site would not exist. So if you have a Biblical or non-Biblical question you would like to ask, submit it now for our next edition of “Bible: Question, Answer and Discussion“.

Question 1:

Name: Rebecca
Question: About a year ago I was home alone and when I got up and went to another room I heard a voice as clear as if it was in the next room. The Voice said, “Quit Smoking”, yes I am wrestling with this nasty habit and would appreciate any prayers offered up to our Heavenly Father for help and strength. Why have I not been able to quit? it was the dumbest thing I have ever done, and I desperately wish to quit, especially since I heard the voice, do you suppose it was an Angel or Jesus? Does He hate me because I am struggling with this horrible addiction? I hate myself for not being able to quit.

Name: Brandon T. Ward
Answer: Rebecca, thank you for the question. We have said a prayer for you and ask our audience to please do the same. As I am sure you are aware 1 Corinthians 6:19 states our body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, so we should treat it with respect including the foods we consume.

Cigarettes are a tough habit to break as you are discovering. They contain nicotine which is the addicting chemical found in them. When you try to quit your body craves that nicotine and that is when you fall back into the habit of smoking. But as Matthew 19:26 says, “with God all things are possible.”

I would say, continue to go to our Father in prayer and ask Him to help you stop smoking. If you want it bad enough and continue in prayer, you will kick the habit. You can do it!

God does not hate you Rebecca, He loves you, He really does. You spending the time to ask this question proves you love Him as well.

Concerning the voice you heard, we know people have been visited by Angels from the scriptures so it is a possibility. I would also like to say, as Christians we need to do our best to live a healthy and respectful lifestyle in order to be an example to others. Maybe this voice has something to do with that… Remember even if you are not a teacher of the Word you can spread the Word just by your actions. People take note whether you realize it or not. In closing, I always like to remind people with spiritual encounters to try the spirits as 1 John 4:1-3 states. Then you will know if they are of God or not.

Question 2:

Name: Barb
Question: Hello!

I’m a little confused on the timeline of these events…What happens when? I understand His return to Mt. Zion and the gathering of His elect upon His return…And I kind of understand the “Great Supper” war and I’m still studying both of course, but I can’t seem to figure out the timeline of events.

Rev 14:1 And I looked, and, lo, a Lamb stood on the mount Sion, and with him an hundred forty and four thousand, having his Father’s name written in their foreheads.

Rev 19:11 And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war.

Thanks for all your time. Great site!

Name: Brandon T. Ward
Answer: Barb, thank you for the question. Revelation can be difficult if we do not follow the time sequence. It tends to jump around quite a bit so we have to be alert in order to keep track of the sequence of events taking place.

While Christ will show up on Mount Sion, He will appear first on the Mount of Olives, the same place He departed the earth (Acts 1:10-12, Zechariah 14:4). Then later He will show up on Mount Sion with the 144,000. Now to your question.

Revelation 19:11
“And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war.”

This scripture takes place before Revelation 14:1. We can document that in the next few verses. There we see the Lord preparing Himself along with the armies of Heaven to smite the nations of the earth (Revelation 19:14-15). Notice, the Lord is in Heaven at this point with the armies of it. He has not yet made war on earth. Shortly after this moment in time Christ will set His feet down on the Mount of Olives which will be divided by the ensuing earthquake (Zechariah 14:4).

Revelation 14:1
“And I looked, and, lo, a Lamb stood on the mount Sion, and with him an hundred forty and four thousand, having his Father’s name written in their foreheads.”

We can document this verse takes place after Revelation 19:11 as we now see Christ on earth and with the 144,000 who are alive on the earth today.

Question 3:

Name: Sharon
Question: Who are the “elect”?

Name: Brandon T. Ward
Answer: Thank you for the question Sharon. This is a subject that has been on my mind so allow me to answer your question from a couple different angles.

The Elect of the end times are the 144,000 of Revelation 7. There we read the end cannot happen until they are sealed with the Word of God. In this chapter we are told this Election consists of 12,000 from each of the twelve tribes of Israel equaling 144,000 in number. Yet, I would not leave out the thought that a portion of the multitude in verse 9 could also take part in the witnessing of the End Times. I say this because the Bible itself is basically about Adam, his family (the tribes of Israel) and those they came in contact with. So naturally we are not told of every detail of the other peoples of the earth. We are told however, “whosoever will” in Revelation 22:17 and I truly believe that. I offer that as supposition.

The truth is no one truly knows who the Elect are including those people who feel they are of God’s Election. The only way to know for sure is if they were told by our Father.

Concerning this angle I would ask does it matter who is and is not of God’s Elect? The Disciples puffed themselves up asking who was the greatest in God’s Kingdom in Luke 8:46. The obvious answer is our Father and Christ. We are all merely servants of the Lord and we should focus on that task.

On the other hand we do know what the actions of the Elect are. Let us read of them.

Colossians 3:12-14
12 “Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering;”

13Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.”

14 “And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness.”

“Charity”, that is love.

Colossians 3:15-16
15 “And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful.”

16 “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.”

These can be tough shoes to fill, let us pray that we may acquire these traits and do our best to be an outstanding servant of the Lord, in Jesus name Amen.
