New VA study finds 20 veterans commit suicide each day

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Roughly 20 veterans a day commit suicide nationwide, according to new data from the Department of Veterans Affairs — a figure that dispels the often quoted, but problematic, “22 a day” estimate yet solidifies the disturbing mental health crisis the number implied.

In 2014, the latest year available, more than 7,400 veterans took their own lives, accounting for 18 percent of all suicides in America. Veterans make up less than 9 percent of the U.S. population.

  1. Hello Brandon: I was struck by the number 20, so I checked out in “Numbers in Scripture” by E. W. Bullinger.
Excerpt: twenty, being one short of 21, it would signify what Dr. Milo Mahan calls expectancy, and certainly we are not without illustrations in support of it:
Twenty years Jacob waited to get possession of his wives and property, Gen 21:38,41.
Twenty years Israel waited for a deliverer from Jabin’s oppression, Judg 4:3.
Twenty years Israel waited for deliverance through Samson, Judg 15:20, 16:31. But his work was never much more than “begun,” Judg 13:25.
Twenty years the Ark of the Covenant waited at Kirjath-jearim, 1 Sam 7:2.
Twenty years Solomon was waiting for the completion of the two houses, 1 Kings 9:10; 2 Chron 8:1.
Twenty years Jerusalem waited between its capture and destruction; and
Twenty years Jeremiah prophesied concerning it. End of Excerpt
How long has this country now been in these end-less wars with no end in sight? Many of our warriors believe in the love of Christ but the woes of the flesh world weigh heavy. The Iraq War started in 2003, so 13 which means rebellion. Expectancy continues for the final battle, which will be purely spiritual. May the Lord bless your work.

    • Thanks for the comment Ginger. I have to caution on getting caught up with numbers and certain signs. I see it done far too often and the numbers, dates, etc come and go and typically mean nothing. Make note of it like you have, but let it be there and I think that is your mindset. I just feel I need to make the comment. Thank you for your understanding.

      • Thank you Brandon. I understand don’t get caught up in numbers, which is exactly what the occult believers do. Also the Christian believers come out with the timelines to make it appear they have an answer about the “rapture” to keep the deception going. There are just some times when certain things strike me then I check into it. Types and examples has related to things in the Bible.

        • Ginger, i enjoyed your sharing and don’t mind Brandon he’s like that with every one 🙂

They always talk about the suicide of our vets’ but never offer an answer or solution to this problem, 22 a day that’s an epidemic and they worry more about the Zeka virus, SAVE OUR VET VET’S.
