Jehovah’s Witnesses banned as ‘extremist’ in Russia, property to be seized – court decision

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

WEB Notes: Jehovah’s Witnesses get a bad rap for their door to door knocking. But that is exactly what we are all commissioned to do, share the Gospel. Unfortunately, they have many, many false teachings as all of the other religions do. “Extremist” though? What makes them more “extreme” than any other religion? Regardless of denomination it is tough to see Christian brothers and sisters booted from nations like this.

Russia’s Supreme Court has banned the Jehovah’s Witnesses, declaring it an “extremist organization” and ordering to hand over its property to the state. The Christian group says it is planning to appeal the decision.

Delivering the verdict on Thursday, Judge Yury Ivanenko ruled that all 395 branches of the religious group on Russian territory are subject to disbandment and the property is to be forfeited to the state.

In the run-up to the ruling on its liquidation, based on a lawsuit filed by the Russian Justice Ministry, the Jehovah’s Witnesses group has repeatedly found itself in trouble with Russia’s anti-extremism legislation. In October last year, a lower court notified the organization of a looming ban if it did not stop engaging in what it considered extremist activity. In January this year, the warning was upheld by the Moscow City Court.

  1. Obviously anyone on this site will believe that JW is more cult than Christian, just as I do. But that isn’t really the point here. The point is that because the state doesn’t like their tactics, the state has decided to confiscate their property and persecute them to the point of completely banning their religion. As followers of Christ it is very tempting to rejoice at this prospect. The problem is who will the state focus on next. We as Christians talk about many things that are politically incorrect today. When we speak out against abortion, homosexuality, the children of Satan and just about anything else that Father’s word says, we find ourselves on the states radar. What is there to keep the state from saying to us that we are extremist and engage in hate speech simply because we follow our Christian faith, and doing the same to us? We have already experienced persecution to a degree and I would suppose that no one likes that. But this is a step up from what we face. I for one don’t like being told that I can be a Christian as long as I sit down and shut up, don’t live my faith. We may think that such a thing could never happen here, but look what is now accepted today as normal. Ten years ago none of these things seemed like they were ever possible. What is going on over there is terrible and history teaches us that what happens elsewhere eventually finds it way here. When these people come around to “talk” to us “unbelievers”, I would rather engage them and plant seeds of truth to them than to take away their right to follow their faith. Isn’t that what we all want to do, follow our faith?

  2. I’ve encountered JW’s before, and usually when you quote scripture to them they leave post-haste. I think they prey on the biblically illiterate who are looking for answers. I had one encounter with mormons…and i gotta say..they were far more arrogant and insisting. I was out in my yard doing some gardening and they just came up and started their rap…I just kept working. One of them said to me, “ARE YOU NOT EVEN GOING TO LOOK AT ME????” I just looked at him and quoted 2 John: 10-11. They left.

Cant’ help but think of a joke Dennis told during Passover this year…I wasn’t there, but saw it on tv…Last joke his mother ever told him…This guy dies, and St.Peter meets him at the Pearly Gates…St.Peter says “and here’s where we keep this denomination”…guys says “well that’s good, look at all them, I’m glad for them”…..St.Peter says “and here’s where we keep this denomination” guy says “well good for them”….Then way down at the very end, sorta separate from all the others, St.Peter says “and here’s where we keep this denomination” and the guy starts to talk, and St.Peter says “sHHHH!!!!! THEY THINK THEY’RE THE ONLY ONES HERE!!!!”.

    • I was writing in a park in town last summer and a JW stopped by to tell me about the Kingdom. When you tell them your a Christian that is not enough they like all of these “faiths” want you to drink their brand of koolaid.

So I stopped him when he mentioned death. They believe when you hit the dirt you stay there until the Millenium. Boy we had a good time there. Poor guy couldn’t understand 2 Cor 5:8 so I talked him through it and explained it then we went to Ecclesiastes. He finally got it. Did it fade away as soon as he walked away? Probably. But I admired how he alone walks up to a stranger working on a laptop in the middle of a vacant park. It takes a lot of nerve.

We need more people of that caliber has been my point in my comments here.

With respect to this article. Would you rather the JWs get booted from Russia and replaced with what? islam, buddha or government propaganda… I say that in general Jack not directed at you.

I suppose in my mind I see Christian “faiths” more as evangelists.

      • Thank you for sharing that story Brandon. Where the dead are is a discussion I have had as well. Those above scriptures pointed out above, the JW’s know them well; they just have a different interpretation as to how they should be translated into English. They think we are coming back to earth in these flesh bodies, but that is not true.
        Romans 8:6-8
“For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. 7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. 8 So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.” (God is not putting us back into our flesh bodies.)
That word enmity translates to HOSTILITY. I do not want God to have hostility towards me!
I quoted these scriptures not only for everyone to read, but for my own well being as well. This world of flesh can lure you away from God’s grace really quick with temptations of the flesh! We all fall short of God’s glory, so when you do fall short and sin, repent and strengthen yourself by rereading God’s word of wisdom to us. I for one will be glad to be rid of this flesh body that is enmity to our heavenly Father.
        Thank you and God Bless.

        • Yeah they did try going there. It took a bit to iron him out, but I doubt it will stick. All we can do is sow some seeds here and there and our Father will do the watering.

I was reading Luke 21 last night and wanted to add to your verses here.

          Luke 21:34
34 “And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares.”

Overcharged is weighed down with the cares of this world. When we allow too much trash from this world into our minds it takes us off our game and we lose sight of what is important.

          Luke 21:35
35 “For as a snare shall it come on all them that dwell on the face of the whole earth.”

Why? They are not aware of our Father’s Word and some of them that are become side tracked and taken off point by false headlines that many are being sucked into.

          Luke 21:36
36 “Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.”

How do we escape? He just told you. How do you escape a trap? By not stepping in it obviously. So you escape that trap by being wise in your Father’s Word and staying focused on what is really important in life.

      • They have to go through many hours of “training” before they are let loose to go out to knock door to door. At one time I even had one of their books of what the response should be if one heard a phrase coming from the person answering the door. Without the script they are lost. It was nice that person met up with a real teacher maybe the little light opened a crack.
        Thanks, Brandon

  3. They are not Christian

    • They believe Jesus Christ is the Son of God. That is more than I can say for some other faiths. Nonetheless they have many false teachings past that scope.

    • Only someone never associated to Jehovah Witness will say they get a bum rap. That group does NOT believe in the divinity of Christ. He was only a moral man according to them, but the Kenites infiltrated many groups, including this one. They started back in the beginning with the Roman Catholics. JW one of their founders, Charles Taze Russell bought a cemetery just outside Pittsburgh, PA. I mention that because I saw his tombstone in the shape of a pyramid with a cross inscribed on side, which is another thing the JW group does not believe they claim Christ was killed hanging on a torture stick. They have their own Bibles. They are the “sleep to live” group show them Ecclesiastes 12:6-14 KJV they will stop knocking on your door.

      • Some of what you said is not true Ginger. I have read it myself from their own site and personal experiences. They certainly believe Christ is the Son of God, how much past that I do not know.

As I said they certainly teach falsely, they do have their own revision of the Bible just as other Christians have the NIV and everything else under the sun.

I still think much can be learned by observing how they strive to share His Word. While other Christians sit in their homes hoarding their knowledge to themselves. If more of us were doing what they are doing it would help to change the world for the better and spread His Word.

If we look at the Islamic faith which is all false they strive to remember every single word of their “holy book” and do not consider a non-Arabic Koran to be a “Koran”.

Imagine if our faith and people did the same? That is my point here. Thanks Ginger.

        • I understand they are not extremist, no JW is going to blow up your house or you, if you do not pay attention to them. Unlike some others, but taking their property is just want the Red Communist atheistic system wants to do. Like many “Christians” they are mixed up.
They say they are, but the literature they hand out denies Jesus, to say the “greatest man that walked the earth.” I spent several years with them literally to become ill, because Father was angry at me. I needed to listen to Him not them.
Go to one of their meeting places; it is a bit here a bit there nothing coherent, just quilt patchwork of the Scripture throughout. Oh, it looks so religious!
As far as people of our people doing the same they did killing over 50 million Christian Bible believers when they did not do their rituals or wanted the Bible written in their native language.
          Thanks, Brandon

          • Thanks for sharing Ginger. I have been to their meetings as well and I certainly have plenty of stories too, but we will save that. I found much of their information odd as a youngster.

I am sure one day like myself you asked our Father to lead you and really take over and after your efforts that became a reality. Have a great night Ginger.

          • Hi Ginger.
I think I mentioned one time before that my uncle is a JW. He became one in the mid seventies. We both live in different states so I do not talk with him often. He does believe in the Son of God for salvation and accepts Jesus for that! However, I think he told me he doesn’t worship Jesus, just Jehovah. They also teach that Michael the arch angel is Jesus. We are not to worship angels and they would be guilty of this if they were to worship Jesus and also believe he is an arch angel.

          • You are right about those points Driving. I think they have a tendency to go to seniors. They came to see my dad almost every week, they talked, he listened. He later told me they are very nice people, but he honestly did not believe what they were saying. Later, I became involved with them. I should have listened to my dad. They are in Babylon.
