43% of Republicans Want to Give Trump the Power to Shut Down Media

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

WEB Notes: After the election, we discussed these sort of things. Republicans got their boy in office and they will support him no matter what he wants to do. Why? He is a Republican, he is on their “political football” team. Now if this headline was flipped around and it was Democrats. Why all the Republicans the nation over would be up in arms. That is why we do not play politics at World Events and the Bible. Instead, we tell you how it is. Bias is a horrible thing and it blinds you from the truth.

Freedom of the press may be guaranteed in the Constitution. But a plurality of Republicans want to give President Trump the authority to close down certain news outlets, according to a new public opinion survey conducted by Ipsos and provided exclusively to The Daily Beast.

The findings present a sobering picture for the fourth estate, with respondents showing diminished trust in the media and increased support for punitive measures against its members. They also illustrate the extent to which Trump’s anti-press drumbeat has shaped public opinion about the role the media plays in covering his administration.

All told, 43 percent of self-identified Republicans said that they believed “the president should have the authority to close news outlets engaged in bad behavior.” Only 36 percent disagreed with that statement. When asked if Trump should close down specific outlets, including CNN, The Washington Post, and The New York Times, nearly a quarter of Republicans (23 percent) agreed and 49 percent disagreed.

  1. CT well said. No party indeed. Why? Because there never has been. Because we’re not of the world even as Christ is not of this world. If we were then we’d fight. Then we’d involve ourselves in the affairs of this life. But we are called of The Lord, and taught by his apostles not to do this.

But those religious who suppose to affect this nation by legislation will never understand you cannot force right by the law. You cannot legislate righteousness. But these show themselves to be the very thing which crucified our Lord, Pharisee. Fallen and not of grace.

Do we pray for our leaders because they are The Lords? No. All the powers of this world are not the Lords….yet. But we pray for them that we might live peaceful in this wicked world. Why does darkness grow? There is only one way for darkness to gain ground against the light. That is it’s absence. The dimming of the light of the great falling away when the religious became the moral majority spitting out a self proclaimed born again Christian full of good works the forty years since, for an actor, a fake, a hypocrite. If I honor my Lord, I’m dishonored immediately. They come in their own name and that to standing ovations and adoration. Nothing new under the sun. Amen Lord, amen. May You help all those who love you in sincerity dear Lord.

  2. not wise. But not all repubs are unwise.

  3. as i go through some headlines, i wonder if people will ever get it through their heads, there is no difference between republican or democrats, they are the same. if you watch closely enough you will begin to notice things. people seem to think that trump is god or something. they seem to think the economy is so great and things are so much better, ha! yes we are setting new records: student debt setting new records, overpriced housing setting new records, stock market setting new oversold records, personal debt setting new records, government debt setting new records, it doesn’t get any better than this. i will not take credit for this comment, as i got it from someone else leaving a comment on another site, but it was so well put that i wrote it down. this person really know’s what is going on.

    • it is interesting gwen, how the evangelicals seem to look for trump to save them (possible from the last 8 years of evil (continuing now in a way, but really got a foothold with socialism attempt at health(sick) care and the happy holidays thing at the hands of an overtly non-Christian). PAM used to describe the worshipers of Satan at the 6th trumpet similar to those at a rock concert. I have always had a hard time quite understanding that, as I have never responded to anything with such excitement—I always thought it was because I’m an introvert, but now I wonder if that’s it or not. They always, and I mean always, looked like a bunch of fools jumping up and down, to me.

      • I appreciate this comment Linda. My Husband and I went to see a humble Australian singer last year and the band that played before as the support act were ridiculous – men with long hair, proud, explicit and suggestive and the crowd were wild. They were jumping up out of their chairs, crying for the lead singer to run past them and touch their hands, shouting out in love and adoration. Not just women but men also, middle aged ‘respectable’ looking men. I was so disturbed by what I saw I was quite nauseous and said to my Husband that I felt that this was what it may be like when satan shows up at the 6th trump on his ego trip reign. I appreciate how honest you are about yourself, I’m quite introverted as well and speak in a measured way but have been described as ‘combatative’ when I stand up for those things I know are right. The enemy will paint you in whatever terminology they think will sway you, or condition you or make you bend to their sick ways of doing things. What we have been told is to stand strong in God’s Strength in His Word and to put the Whole Armour of God on for protection. I praise God for my fellow brothers and sisters in Christ Jesus!

    • There is no American political party for the Christians.
