Are There Prophets That Have Dreams And Visions?

Great to hear from you.

You know, I have never been a fan of modern “prophets” and those espousing visions, dreams, and premonitions.

Personally, I think it’s a bunch of nonsense. When I hear those things from people, I run! The messages you hear from these types are typically convoluted. Perhaps the individual saw something, but then it could be misinterpreted by them.

Most, if not all, are attention seekers from my experience.

In the end, I honestly think it’s people that are out to make a buck. Like the people who were clinically dead, went to Heaven, and came back to tell you what Heaven is like. Of course, in the form of a book for sale.

Sorry, not buying it.

God never provided those details to us in Scripture, as He didn’t want us to know.

Are we really to believe these people are the chosen vessel to tell us such Heavenly things?

People clinically die all the time, and come back to life, why are there not more stories?

Gifts From Above

Back to prophets and visions…

If you flip over to,

1 Corinthians 12:28
And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues.

We see God does bestow spiritual gifts.

We know Peter and the Apostles performed many miracles after Christ’s ascension, (Acts 3:12).

However, such “miracles” do not exist today. I’m talking about raising people from the dead, turning water into wine, and other true miracles.

I encourage you to take your Strong’s Concordance and look up the words in bold for more understanding.

For example, “Prophet” means “an inspired speaker.”

Hey, when you teach God’s Word, you are supposed to be Divinely inspired. So I don’t read too much into the word “prophet” in the modern sense. We truly live in a time of faith, and not a time of miracles as in the days of old. That was a time to build the foundation of Christianity, we have that today, the complete Word of God, the Bible.

Also let me add, “diversities of tongues” simply means the gift of being bilingual. It’s the ability to speak a language “naturally unacquired.” More importantly, it’s the ability to translate one language into another for the benefit of the listener.

I speak English, but if I go learn German, then hey, I now have “diversities of tongues.” Moreover, I can translate the message from English to German for the benefit of a German audience.

Prophets, Dreams, And Visions

Now maybe someone can show me in the Bible where God said He would have prophets down to this time providing; visions, dreams, and premonitions, but I have never read that. I believe Joel 2:28-31 speaks of that, but that’s just before the Lord’s Return. Pentecost Day was an example of it though.

When I hear about people having dreams and whatnot, I always have to ask myself…

If they really had visions, dreams, and premonitions from God, then why are they selling it to you in a book?

That is contrary to what Christ told us,

…freely ye have received, freely give.

Matthew 10:8

How about another verse?

1 Corinthians 2:12
Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.

Then we have Christ chiming in again;

But take ye heed: behold, I have foretold you all things.

Mark 13:23

So are these dreamers and visionaries telling us Christ lied, that there was more to the story, that only they know?

Hey, if there is a message God wants you to know about, it will be free of charge.

Christ already paid the price for all things.

If someone is selling us exclusive knowledge from our Heavenly Father, then I am inclined to believe they are not of Him. Ironically enough, read Jeremiah 23-29. False prophets and dreamers have always been an obstacle for God’s people.

Something you said jumped out at me,

One person in the book wrote that the room got cold and erie before he had his vision. That’s a bit disturbing to me.

That reminded me of the vision Margaret McDonald had.

The same vision she later told church leaders who turned it into the rapture doctrine.

McDonald’s vision was cold and dark, but church leaders latched onto it, and it became one of the biggest false doctrines in Christianity. If you don’t know what I am talking about, check out the book, The Incredible Cover-Up by Dave MacPherson.

I am glad to see you are skeptical about all of this, especially after you dove in a bit more.

Teachers Of God

Here is what is certain…

God sent us teachers and pastors.

Why did He send them?

To teach us His Word, the Word that is already written.

And I will give you pastors according to mine heart, which shall feed you with knowledge and understanding.

Jeremiah 3:15

To think God provided some people exclusive knowledge to sell to us goes against the Bible.

Let’s tie in another Scripture.

Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.

2 Peter 1:20

God didn’t give anyone of us special knowledge about His Word. Nothing is exclusive, it’s all revealed, Jesus made all things known.

Therefore, if anyone tells you differently, then they do not bring you the Doctrine of Jesus Christ.

1 Timothy 6:3-5
3 If any man teach otherwise, and consent not to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which is according to godliness;

4 He is proud, knowing nothing, but doting about questions and strifes of words, whereof cometh envy, strife, railings, evil surmisings,

5 Perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness: from such withdraw thyself.

Hey, that’s God’s Word right there. It brings clarity and comfort.

Conclusion

Regardless, you do not need me, a dreamer, or anyone else to tell you what the Bible says. We are blessed in the days we live in. We all have access to God’s Word.

We have about seven Bibles in our home, and then we all have the digital form as well. You could turn off my website, and every other one, and never tune in again. If you read the Word, believe Jesus is the Son of God, and do His Word, you will be saved and blessed right now, and in the future for it!
