Who Are God’s Chosen People?

Name: Anonymous
Question: Which people are God’s chosen people, Palestinians or Jews? Will we be cursed by God if we curse one of the above mentioned? Will we be blessed by God if we bless one of the above mentioned?

Answer: Thanks for the question.

I’ll open with a short summary, and then explain in detail.

In the Old Testament, God’s chosen people were the ancient Israelites. However, God did not choose them due to their ethnicity, He simply chose them “to be a special people unto himself.” A people He could lead and use to bring His Word to the world, (Deut 7:7, Act 10:36, Mar 16:15).

In the New Testament, God’s chosen people became Christians, those who accept His Son Jesus Christ. Scripture makes it very clear, God is not a “respecter of persons,” so God cannot choose someone due to their race. Instead, God chooses those who love Him and accept His Son, (Gal 3:28, Joh 3:16, Act 10:34).

We’re going to learn, God made an everlasting covenant with Abraham, but this was ultimately fulfilled through Jesus Christ. I’m going to discuss this subject from the Old and New Testament, so you understand, all those who accept Jesus are the chosen people of God today.

Let’s begin.

Bless Them That Bless Thee

This is the verse you’re referring to.

Genesis 12:3
And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.

Who was God talking to?

Abraham.

God was not speaking of modern-day Jews.

In fact, at this time, there was no such thing as the 12 Tribes of Israel, much less a Jew. The 12 Tribes of Israel (Israelites) would not come into existence for another hundred years.

However, God did choose the Israelites to be His chosen people.

God Chose The Israelites

Deuteronomy 7:6
For thou art an holy people unto the LORD thy God: the LORD thy God hath chosen thee to be a special people unto himself, above all people that are upon the face of the earth.

Also: Deuteronomy 14:2

Who was God talking to?

The 12 Tribes of Israel.

The Jews have no basis here.

In fact, the word “Jews” does not appear in the Bible until 2 Kings 16:6. So Scripture is simply telling us, the Israelites, all 12 Tribes of Israel were God’s chosen people.

Now, why did God have a chosen people to begin with?

Our Heavenly Father simply desired a people that would bring His Word to the world. Through the Israelites, is how the world came to know Jehovah and Jesus Christ, (Is 49:6, Act 10:36, Mar 16:15).

In Thy Seed Shall All Nations Be Blessed

Let’s read more about the promise that God made to Abraham.

Genesis 22:17-18
17 That in blessing I will bless thee, and in multiplying I will multiply thy seed as the stars of the heaven, and as the sand which is upon the sea shore; and thy seed shall possess the gate of his enemies;

18 And in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because thou hast obeyed my voice.

Once again, at the time of this Biblical writing, there was no such thing as the 12 Tribes of Israel, there was no such thing as a Jew. Therefore, we cannot infer this is referring to Jews. Even if we could, the Jews have certainly not brought “all nations” blessings.

Only God can do that.

In reality, these verses take on natural and spiritual significance.

Let me explain.

In the natural sense, this blessing was fulfilled during the time of Moses according to Deuteronomy 1:10. The Israelites had become “as the stars of heaven for multitude.” They became a very powerful nation at one time, when they adhered to God’s direction.

In the spiritual sense, this blessing was fulfilled through Jesus according to Galatians 3:16. The promise made to Abraham was to “his seed,” singular, “as of one, which is Christ.” Jesus is the only “seed,” the only descendant of Abraham that has ever blessed “all nations.”

That is the ultimate fulfillment of the verse we just read.

Now, I want to explain that in more detail.

So let’s turn to the New Testament.

Thy Seed Is Christ

Galatians 3:16
Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ.

When God made that promise to Abraham back in Genesis, it did fall upon his descendants for a time. However, Scripture makes it very clear, the ultimate fulfillment of,

  • “…in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed
  • “…in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed
Genesis 12:3, 22:18

Is found in Jesus Christ.

That’s what Galatians 3:16 is teaching us.

From Abraham, down through the generations eventually came Jesus Christ, “the seed,” the promised seed who would fulfill this everlasting covenant. Through Jesus Christ, all families of the earth are blessed, not through the Jews.

Why?

When we accept Jesus Christ, we obtain eternal life.

  • “All families of the earth” can take part in that.
  • “All families of the earth” are blessed by that.

We have more details…

Galatians 3:28
There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.

The Bible, God’s Holy Word is saying, there is no difference between races.

In fact, to teach the Jews are God’s chosen people is to teach racism.

It’s to teach, that God automatically chooses and blesses someone due to the color of their skin.

Yet, that completely contradicts the Bible.

  • For the LORD your Godregardeth not persons,” (Deuteronomy 10:17).
  • There is no respect of persons with God,” (Romans 2:11).
  • God is no respecter of persons,” (Acts 10:34).

Therefore, the Holy Scriptures make it abundantly clear, there is neither Jew or Greek.

Why?

We are all one in Jesus Christ.

Galatians 3:29
And if ye be Christ’s, then are ye Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.

In fact, Romans 4:13-14, 16 provide a second witness to this testament.

This helps us understand, the promise God made to Abraham was a shadow of things to come, a shadow of Jesus Christ, who has blessed the entire world.

How?

By sacrificing Himself on the cross for the remission of our sins.

We have more Biblical evidence to consider.

Romans 2:28-29
28 For he is not a Jew, which is one outwardly; neither is that circumcision, which is outward in the flesh:

29 But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God.

Paul plainly tells us, the former practices of the flesh have been done away with. Today, we no longer perform blood sacrifice, we no longer need to be circumcised for religious reasons, and neither is someone “God’s chosen” due to their flesh, due to their race.

Instead, all of these things have been spiritualized, they have been delegated to our heart, to our spirit. A Christian is now circumcised in their heart, in their spirit, and they become of Abraham’s seed, they become a spiritual “Jew” through their acceptance of Jesus Christ.

Race and genealogy play no role.

That was Paul’s message.

As we can see, the Old and New Testaments both reject the concept of the Jews being God’s chosen people.

  • The Old, by understanding there were no Jews at the time of the writing.
  • The New, by understanding God’s promise to Abraham was fulfilled through Jesus.

I want to point something else out…

Thy Seed Will I Give This Land

Proponents of the “Jews are God’s chosen people” doctrine also cite Genesis 12:7. It says in part, “Unto thy seed will I give this land” with reference to Canaan. Now, God certainly did give this land to the ancient Israelites.

However, the Israelites turned their back on God, time and time again, and for that, God scattered them about the nations. Unfortunately, many use Ezekiel 37 to indicate, that God brought the Israelites (Jews) back to the land of Israel in 1948, fulfilling His promise of old.

However, by carefully reading Ezekiel 37:17-24, we learn the 12 Tribes of Israel, not Jews, were considered to be two symbolic and separate sticks. God said, in the future, He would join both sticks together, this meant, God would re-establish Israel, and at that time they will not,

  • “…defile themselves any more with their idols”
  • “…nor with their detestable things”
  • “…nor with any of their transgressions
  • “…and David my servant shall be king over them

My friends, that has not transpired.

Transgressions” are sins, the Jews sin like everyone else, and David is not their king.

This clarifies for us, God has not rejoined Israel.

That will not transpire until the Millennium, after the return of Jesus Christ. So then, the concept of the Jews being God’s chosen people is rooted in Biblical misconceptions, church tradition, and untruths. Today, God does not have a chosen people based on their race.

Summary

We learned, God made a promise to Abraham, not the Jews, as they didn’t exist at the time of the promise. Instead, the promise was bestowed on the ancient Israelites for a time, with its true fulfillment in Jesus Christ.

This tells us, the modern nation called Israel was not re-established by God. That will not take place until the Millennium, after the return of Jesus. Therefore, the “Jewish State” was not sanctioned by God, but by men.

There’s something else you must understand. The word Jew has taken on different meanings throughout time. Today, “Jew” is used to identify someone of:

  • Judean ancestry (1 of the 12 Tribes) or…
  • Their national identity to the modern state of Israel or…
  • Their adherence to Judaism.

Judaism is the religion of the Jews, and it’s based on the un-Godly rabbinical writings of the Talmud.

Therefore, to say the Jews are God’s chosen people is to ignore these facts. It’s to say God is racist, instead of Him ‘respecting no persons.’ It’s to ignore Biblical history, and the fulfillment of Scripture through Christ our Lord.
