Should We Celebrate Easter?

Welcome to Bible Question and Answer, our bi-weekly series where we provide Bible verses, answers and advice to the questions and concerns you have. During the course of the last two weeks readers have submitted their questions and today we are going to answer one of them.

Name: Ed
Question: Holidays such as Christmas and Easter.

I looked into Christmas and found that it is surrounded in Paganism and
that most know that Christ was not born on this month so it only seems
right not to celebrate someones birthday if it is not on the correct month.
For that I discontinued the tradition but my family still wished to
celebrate it still. I tried to do gift giving on thanksgiving instead due to
no religious association to it. Plus can you celebrate Easter on Sunday
leaving the Bunnies and eggs out? Since Christ rose on the first day of the
week. Thanks for any help.

Name: Brandon T. Ward
Answer: Thank you for the question Ed.

It is true, December 25 is not the actual birth date of Jesus Christ.

However, it is the day that Christ came to live with mankind in the flesh as God placed Him into the womb of Mary on this day so it is still a very special day.

Christ was born was September 29th. We have a couple past Bible Q&As on this subject for those interested.

I am not sure why you want to celebrate easter since it is most definitely pagan in nature. Easter was created and put in place of the day and tradition that we should actually be celebrating and that is Passover Day, the highest Holy Day in Christianity.

It is the day that Christ rose from the dead paying the ultimate sacrifice for our sins, giving His life for ours.

It is on Passover Day that we should gather together and take communion to honor His sacrifice for us. To remember Him and thank Him for all He has done for us.
