When Was Satan Cast Out Of Heaven?

Name: Michael P.
Question: The Bible describes Satan and his angels being cast out of heaven before mankind was created. In Revelations, it describes Satan and his angels being cast out again. Could you help me with this seeming discrepancy? Thank you and God bless your ministry.

Answer: Thank you for the question Michael.

God has never cast Satan out of Heaven, though Satan has certainly been on earth.

Let us walk through this.

Satan, I Will Cast Thee To The Ground

In Ezekiel 28:12-19 we are told about the Prince of Tyre which was an example for Satan. We can be sure of that as verse 13 tells us, “thou hast been in Eden the garden of God”.

The literal Prince of Tyre was not in the Garden of Eden, but Satan who is the serpent certainly was.

Let us read a little more.

Ezekiel 28:14
Thou art the anointed cherub that covereth; and I have set thee so: thou wast upon the holy mountain of God; thou hast walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire.

We are talking about God’s Holy Mountain, the location of His Throne which is certainly not on earth. There can be no doubt, we are talking about Satan who was the anointed “cherub” by God who ‘covered’ the very Throne of God.

God is telling us about an event that transpired in “the world that then was,” when Satan who is also known as Lucifer wanted to be exalted above God, (Isaiah 14:12-16, 2 Peter 3:6).

Ezekiel 28:17
Thine heart was lifted up because of thy beauty, thou hast corrupted thy wisdom by reason of thy brightness: I will cast thee to the ground, I will lay thee before kings, that they may behold thee.

God is telling us about Satan’s fall from his position of power in The World That Then Was.

Now, God did not cast Satan out of Heaven. God said He will, as in a future point in time, cast Satan to the ground so kings can “behold” him. “Behold” means in the “sight of others”, “gaze” and “see”.

This event will take place at the 6th Trumpet which initiates the Tribulation. God has never cast Satan out of Heaven onto earth in front of kings or people, but He will. Revelation 12:7-9 tells us that. Moreover, Satan presently stands before God accusing us before Him, (Revelation 12:10).

Lucifer, How Art Thou Fallen From Heaven

In Isaiah 14:3-19 God tells us about the King of Babylon which is also an example of Satan, verse 12 dials this in for us.

Isaiah 14:12
How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!

God is not telling us Satan literally fell from Heaven to earth, nor is it implied. This is a future event in part.

Fallen” means “overthrow”. God overthrew Satan from His position of power in The World That Then Was. We just learned about that in Ezekiel. If we keep reading we will discover Satan who is Lucifer wanted to sit on God’s Mountain, Satan wanted God’s Throne.

Ezekiel 28:18 and Isaiah 14:15 both explain Satan will perish for this crime against God and His children.

But listen to what verse 16 tells us.

Isaiah 14:16
They that see thee shall narrowly look upon thee, and consider thee, saying, Is this the man that made the earth to tremble, that did shake kingdoms.

Who are “they”?

The people, and kings of the earth that we learned about in Ezekiel will look at Satan after the Tribulation and say, is this the guy that caused all the trouble on earth?

Ezekiel and Isaiah are simply telling us, Satan fell from his position of power. In the future, Satan will be cast out of Heaven and placed before the people in plain “sight”. Christ told us the same thing when He said, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from Heaven.

Satan Walked To And Fro On The Earth

Remember, Satan has not been cast out of Heaven by God, but Satan has certainly walked on the face of the earth many times of his own free will no less. After the destruction of The World That Then Was, we find Satan on earth in the Garden of Eden.

I want to show you that Satan had the ability to move between Heaven and earth freely.

Job 1:7
And the LORD said unto Satan, Whence comest thou? Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it.

God would then tell Satan about his impeccable servant Job. So we can see here that Satan was not only walking on the earth, but he could also present himself before God in Heaven as well.

We are also told that Satan was on earth when he “tempted” our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in the wilderness, (Matthew 4:1-11).

Between those two verses, we can see that Satan was able to access Heaven and earth.

Then we have this:

  • In Luke 4:8, Jesus told Satan to “Get thee behind me,” but Satan didn’t listen. Instead, he took Jesus to “a pinnacle of the temple,” (Luke 4:9).
  • In Matthew 4:10, Jesus told Satan “get thee hence,” which means “go away”. Finally, Satan left His presence, (Matthew 4:11).

However, Satan’s spirit still roams the earth, evident as he later entered into Judas, (Luke 22:3, John 13:2). Once thing is certain, since the time of Jesus, Scripture never mentions Satan on earth in physical form. Therefore, Satan’s physical form is bound in Heaven, until he is cast out by Michael, (Revelation 12:7-9).

Satan Cast Out Of Heaven

The decree we read from God in Ezekiel 28:17, and the expression of Isaiah 14:12 will become a reality when the Deadly Wound to the sixth kingdom transpires.

This will be the moment when Michael the Archangel, by God’s power casts Satan out of Heaven. It will be the moment when Satan and his angels are cast to “the ground”, and finally placed before “kings” and the people to “behold”.

This will begin the Tribulation, and The Great Apostasy.
