What is the Meaning of Life?

Bible Study

What is the Meaning of Life? - Jesus with Footprints in the SandWhat is the meaning of life? That is a question that has left mankind scratching their heads since the dawn of time. Where do we search to find the answer to that question? God’s Word. If you are not a Christian I would ask you to consider following along in this quick study…

Let’s get started.

In Mark 13:23 Jesus said,

“But take ye heed: behold, I have foretold you all things.

If Jesus said He told us all things, then He meant it. So we must seek out the scriptures for the answer to our question.

Revelation 4:11
11 “Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.

There you have the answer to the question! All things were created for God’s pleasure. That is the meaning of life. Not only mankind, everything around us was created for the pleasure of God. Our Father loves us very much, in fact He created us in His exact image (Genesis 1:26-27). If the entire reason of our being is to please God, we must search the scriptures and seek out what pleases Him.

1 John 3:22-24
22 “And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight.

23 “And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment.”

24 “And he that keepeth his commandments dwelleth in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he hath given us.”

How beautifully put.

We become pleasing to God and we show Him our love by believing on His Son, Jesus Christ and following those Ten Commandments which He gave us (Exodus 20:1-17, Deuteronomy 5:4-21). Following these things pleases our Father in Heaven. Take note that those commandments don’t just please God, they enrich our daily lives. We become better people and create a better society as a result.

Do you realize God loves us so much that He sent His only begotten Son to earth to die on the cross so that our sins might be forgiven (1 John 4:9-10, Hebrews 2:14)?

That is true love indeed. God is our Father and we are His children. God gave us a chance to experience this relationship ourselves with our children. You would do just about anything for your child would you not?

So would God and He already has. Never doubt the love God holds for you.

If that was not enough, God has made many promises to us in His Word, the Bible.

Do you know what they are?

Hebrews 11:6
6 “But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

What is being said here?

We must have faith in God in order to please Him, in return He rewards those that truly seek after Him in His Word. There’s a promise…

Let’s look at one more before we conclude.

1 Corinthians 2:9
9 “But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.”

That is utterly amazing to think about. Those that love God and seek out His Word are promised rewards we can’t even imagine. How exciting! I look forward to that day, when we again will walk with our closest relative, our Father in Heaven.

Great job, Brandon, as always! Such a blessing!

  3. YHWH follows His own laws, so that makes Him a good God. That would explain why satan is doing everything he can to prove God a liar; even if only for a single promise. For example, YHWH made promises to Abraham & his seed to be as numerous as the stars and explains why satan is bent on killing every Jew & Christian (to prevent that promise from coming to fruition). satan’s plan is pure evil, but brilliant in its simplicity: kill every descendent of Abraham, Isaac & Jacob and every Christian believer and make God a liar. Problem is, YHWH cannot lie. That is a powerful & wonderful fact for every believer. We can count on every promise YHWH has made in His Word. Every. Single. One. We serve an Awesome God. Not only can we count on His Word, but He proved it by becoming a man & showed us how to live (love YHWH & our fellow man). YHWH is Love. Love fulfills the Law.

    • Thank you for the comment Jerry.

I would like to point out that our Father’s name is “YHVH”, not YHWH. I can document that for you if you like? Simply take the word “Jehovah” and break it back into the original language and you will find “YHVH”.

You mentioned Abraham and the promise God made to him. Abraham’s seed was to be many, as the sand of the sea and become MANY NATIONS (Genesis 17:4-5). Not just one called Israel. We have both the good and bad fig in Israel per Jeremiah 24. God’s “chosen” people were all twelve tribes not just one called Judah. “Chosen” for what? To spread the Word of God and nothing more. God is not a respecter of persons (Romans 2:11). He loves all of His children, but He did need some who He could count on to spread His Word from generation to generation.

Edit: In order to document what I said above simply take the word “Jehovah” which appears four times in the King James Version Bible (Exodus 6:3, Psalms 83:18, Isaiah 12:2; 26:4). You will find that the word “Jehovah” is Strong’s Word 3068 in your Concordance.

Reference the letters below in bold and you will notice there is not a single “W”. The other letters are actually vowels in the Hebrew language that help make up the word.

From H1961; (the) self Existent or eternal; Jehovah, Jewish national name of God: – Jehovah, the Lord. Compare H3050, H3069.

      • This is one of the reasons that I graze in these Green Pastures Brandon! You lead folks to God’s Truths! Great answer! It certainly can be proven in God’s / Christ’s Holy Word…and you’ve offered to do just that!
Keep up the awesome labor of love my brother in Christ! May God continue to Bless, Lead, Guide and Direct all those who share His Truths!

  4. I have a serious question for you. I’m seriously not trying to catch you out, or troll in any way; this concept has wracked my brain for quite some time. Why was Christ’s sacrifice necessary? YHWH, as the offended party, surely has the prerogative to forgive the offense, for no other reason than mercy. Couldn’t He have simply exercised His Divine Power and changed the rules, instead of making a bizarre end-run around them? For that matter, didn’t he foresee that His rules would be overly harsh, and require this sort of fix right from the beginning? Doesn’t that mean He set us up to fail on purpose?I’m really not trying to troll here, but I need a powerful reason to believe in the face of a Creator who, on the face of it, seems monumentally evil.

    • You ask some very good questions, but it is clear you are not a believer, if you do not believe you will never understand. You can come to understand if you ask for Him to help you and open His Word and start reading it. Praying before you do so. Belief is based on what? Faith ultimately. The Bible gives us many answers about the world, but in the end we have to rely on our faith which we obtain and prove to ourselves by the truth found in the scriptures.

What was the entire reason for Christ to come? He came not to change the law but to fulfill the law. The old laws required the blood of an animal to wash away sin and were meant for the men of that time. Christ became the lamb that was slain so we would not have to do that any longer while bringing salvation through Him. He came in the flesh to show us how and what we need to do. Not asking us to do something He would not do Himself.

In the world that was all the children of God sang for joy (Job 38:7). In that world Satan was a high ranking Cherubim, but he rebelled rather wanting to be God himself (Isaiah 14, Ezekiel 28). Many of the children of God who were all in spiritual bodies followed Satan. Rather than God destroying them all (can you imagine murdering your own child?) He created this age we presently live in where man is born innocent of woman in the flesh to make up their mind who they will follow God or Satan. With that we are born with absolute free will, all of those aside from the Elect who made that stand with God in the first earth age. If you have absolute free will God does not know exactly what you will do, He knows most likely what you will do from the first earth age but this is our chance to make a stand with Him. Will you do it?
The Elect we can read about in Revelation 7 and they are those whom are sealed before the coming of the false Christ. God can intervene in their lives to move His will forward. I should also add there is something called the Remnant who have been with us since the beginning. They are the Elect of old who have passed down the Word of God from one generation to the next.

You bring up good questions and there is much more to this topic. In the future we will put together a study on this topic for our readers so it is all documented in God’s Word.

    • He came to defeat death. Death is Satan. He resurrected, an example that we too could live eternal. Also during that time he went back and witnessed to the people who had died before, all the way back to Noah.So that they have the same opportunity that we as Christians have since his crucifixion. To accept him as Emmanual, which means God with us. He was God in the flesh. You need to keep asking questions and digging in the word. All the answers are there.

    • Well when a person sees the world, and wonders why would God, so and so, and the answer is so simple, and yet you have to stop and meditate on it!!! God is Love, and Gods loves “All”, all his children, good or bad. Even the ones that rebelled on the first earth age. So, He brought on These second earth age for the prodical sons who went astray. The parable of the prodical son, is what these earth age is about. As one friend told me once. God would not make us doing something He himself be willing to do . Imagine this, the Creator of Everything stepping out of His Throne, and humbling Himself, being born in the flesh as Jesus Christ, for the sake of that one sheep who went astray, well, isn’t that an incredible love for us to merely understand and that He would allow sin, and evil to rule today, as much as He hates that, but for the sake of that “lost soul”. So as a true servant of the Lord, His Kings and Priests of the future, He would naturally expect them to do the same.

  5. thank you.

  6. When I was six…I lived in Tennessee…we were very poor….but that did not matter…I used to hate those ants that would bite..I would spend hours plugging their little hills. One day when I was doing that I experienced a voice. It came from everywhere and it said “Things are not as they seem” and I thought hmmm…Things are not as they seem and I knew exactly what that meant. Later I learned the parable of the ants and the grasshoppers and I knew…When God Speaks…I listen…
