A Biblical Message Seen Through The World Cup

It’s hard to imagine, but our Christian beliefs just might be a better fit in Qatar than the United States.

Yes, Qatar.

That little obscure nation in the Middle East that just happens to be hosting the 2022 World Cup.

Yes, Christianity is legal in Qatar.

Do you know what’s not legal in Qatar?

  • Homosexuality
  • Drugs

In Qatar, “same-sex relationships” are banned, homosexuality is considered “immoral” under Sharia law. So what’s the crime for breaking this tenant of Islamic law you ask?

How about fines, prison sentences, and even death.

By the way, don’t read over that, “same-sex relationships” are not “marriage.”

Qatar never allowed it to get that far. Here in the United States, we allowed it long ago, then we sanctified it by allowing gays to get married. Then, our nation forced it on our children in schools, and television shows promoted it, sealing homosexuality into our culture.

Qatar is having none of that.

Qatar Says No To Beer

Interestingly enough, Budweiser just happens to be the primary sponsor for the World Cup. However, Qatar says, ‘there shall be no Bud at the games.’ They pulled the plug on the keg.

  • Can you imagine that, a nation actually banning alcohol in public spaces?
  • A nation actually standing up for their religious beliefs?

On the flip side, the United States is so hip to gays, the U.S. soccer team redesigned their logo to be “diverse and inclusive.” Not to mention, several states within our union have legalized hardcore drugs. We’re a failing state and a fledgling religious community.

It’s all enough to make you puke, gag, and throw up as Mom always said.

You know what really gets my goat though?

It’s All About The Money

In Qatar, it’s all about their religious beliefs and ensuring morality stays intact.

In the United States, it’s all about the money.

The U.S. is real quick to point out “human right abuses” in other nations when it suits certain political agendas. Yet, they’re not so worried about it in Qatar, even though homosexuality is explicitly illegal and punishable by death.

Do you know why?

Qatar’s massive prosperity is a product of long-term clientelism by the West, which sees it as a critical partner to containing Iran. The tiny Qatar subsequently props up Western strategic interests throughout the Middle East, serving a similar purpose in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, and Oman. They sell the West energy, the West sells them arms, which are then used to enforce the West’s vision for the region.

There you have it.

If the United States starts pointing the finger at Qatar, then Qatar gives them the finger.

Vulgar.

You see, in the United States we’re a bit two faced. We only care about our ideals when it brings in the bacon!

You remember what happened back in 2019 don’t you?

The Red State of Georgia passed an abortion law. Disney’s CEO Rob Iger came out and said, ‘it would be ‘very difficult’ to continue filming in Georgia after the abortion ban.’

Interestingly enough, Iger retired, and a super-woke CEO filled his shoes. Even more interesting, that super-woke CEO was just canned for being too woke and losing profits, so Iger is back!

Since you’re a wise observer, you also remember what happened back in 2021…

A plethora of companies switched their company logos to rainbow on Twitter. However, those same companies made sure those changes didn’t affect their regional branded accounts in the Middle East.

Two faced.

If they really gave a rip about gays, they would have ensured their logos were changed across the board. However, it would not have been accepted in the Middle East. It wouldn’t have been accepted in nations like Qatar, and those companies feared losing dollars.

Back To Soccer!

So back to this World Cup business.

Several soccer captions representing European nations planned to wear rainbow “One Love” armbands. However, FIFA’s international governing body said, ‘no you’re not,’ all due to Qatar’s religious stance.

Guess how FIFA played it off?

“As national federations we can’t put our players in a position where they could face sporting sanctions, including bookings,” the seven soccer federations said in a joint statement.

AP

Please.

If they were so worried about gay rights, they never would have agreed to host the games there to begin with. The reason they did, cash money, and international exposure to their sport.

Back In The USA!

“Down home” here in the U.S., our elected officials put off voting on “same-sex marriage protections” until after the elections. They did this so Republicans wouldn’t face a backlash for supporting the abominable bill.

Dirty rotten scoundrels they are.

Look what happened last week…

In a 62-37 vote, 12 Republicans voted with all Democrats to move forward on the bill, after negotiators reached a bipartisan deal to include protections for religious liberty. The vote on final passage could occur as soon as this week.

Politico

Do you think Qatar would have done this?

Nope.

Instead, they would have strung up their leadership for pulling this crap.

Ohh, but it gets much worse here at home.

Look what the Church of Latter Day Saints said,

As we work together to preserve the principles and practices of religious freedom together with the rights of LGBTQ individuals, much can be accomplished to heal relationships and foster greater understanding.

Church of Jesus Christ

The Mormons drank all the Kool-Aid!

You cannot, I repeat, you cannot preserve religious “principles and practices” together with sin. Homosexuality is sin. Sin and righteousness do not mix, they do not mingle, (2 Corinthians 6:14).

You want proof?

I’ll show you proof.

Hop, skip and jump back in time to the days of the ancient Israelites. In Judah, they had a king named Jehoshaphat, he did all right most of the time. He even humbled himself before God, and it was God who saved Judah from being invaded by hordes.

God literally destroyed all of the invading armies by Himself, and Jehoshaphat and his band witnessed it first hand, (2 Chronicles 20:4-6, 15, 17, 20-22).

Remarkable.

You would think Jehoshaphat and the Judean’s would have got and kept their act together.

Yet, look what we have just a few verses later…

2 Chronicles 20:35
And after this did Jehoshaphat king of Judah join himself with Ahaziah king of Israel, who did very wickedly:

What did you just read about the Mormon church?

They told you we must preserve our religious “principles and practices” together with gays. It’s the same mistake Jehoshaphat made!

Do you know why Jehoshaphat “joined himself” with the wicked king?

It’s all about the money!

2 Chronicles 20:36
And he joined himself with him to make ships to go to Tarshish: and they made the ships in Eziongeber.

Ol Jehoshaphat and his band worked with the wicked king of Israel to build ships for trade.

How do you think this unholy union worked out?

2 Chronicles 20:37
Then Eliezer the son of Dodavah of Mareshah prophesied against Jehoshaphat, saying, Because thou hast joined thyself with Ahaziah, the LORD hath broken thy works. And the ships were broken, that they were not able to go to Tarshish.

That’s right!

When you know better, and you join yourself to wickedness anyway…

God’s going to wreck your ship. He’s going to sink your fleet. You see, Tarshish was the place for big trade. We’re talking “gold, and silver, ivory, and apes, and peacocks,” (2 Chronicles 9:21). That’s what Jehoshaphat was concerned with, money, money, money.

As we can see, nothing has changed from the days long ago.

If you’re really sharp, you probably noticed the king of Israel (northern tribes) was wicked.

Why do you think that was?

Long before, they had “cast out the priests of the LORD, the sons of Aaron, and the Levites, and have made you priests after the manner of the nations of other lands,” (2 Chronicles 13:9). The now northern nation of Israel had cast out God, and replaced Him with the gods of other nations.

Judah had followed suite in some regard, but not to the extent of the northern kingdom. Yet, Judah was in the process of veering so far away from God, that He would cast them away.

Summary

When we look back on Biblical history, even though God revealed Himself to the Israelites, it was always so easy for them to cast Him aside, and accept false gods. The Israelites had a real God, who did real things for them, but they always shoved Him off to worship and serve someone else’s god.

Somethings just never change.
