Fierce fighting for control of Syria’s Aleppo

(Video) – Rebel fighters say they need support to battle Syrian government forces in Aleppo in the country’s north.

The Free Syrian Army says it is trying to defend the area from a military force armed with helicopters, tanks and a lot of artillery – far superior to the weapons and supplies the FSA has.

Brazil protests: president to hold emergency meeting

Brazil Riots Crowd

(Video) – Brazil’s president, Dilma Rousseff, and key ministers are to hold an emergency meeting on Friday following a night of protests that saw Rio de Janeiro and dozens of other cities echo with percussion grenades and swirl with teargas as riot police scattered the biggest demonstrations in more than two decades.

The protests were sparked last week by opposition to rising bus fares, but they have spread rapidly to encompass a range of grievances, as was evident from the placards. “Stop corruption. Change Brazil”; “Halt evictions”; “Come to the street. It’s the only place we don’t pay taxes”; “Government failure to understand education will lead to revolution”.

World Refugee Day: UN calls Syria ‘worst humanitarian disaster’ since cold war

Syria’s grinding civil war has so far produced 1.6 million refugees and millions more internally displaced children and adults – the reason the global refugee and internal displacement numbers are at their highest since the mid-1990s.

Not since 1994, when wars raged in the Balkans and Rwanda, has the world seen the likes of the 45 million refugees, displaced persons, and asylum seekers estimated at the end of 2012 by the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).

Chinese Banks Ready to Go Bust

China Bank

Dive! Take cover! Or, at least, hold on to your pants in the scramble. The Chinese bubble has just burst. It looks like the world is going to have egg on its face and elsewhere as Chinese banks are scrambling to get the hands on cash.

Chinese cash rates didn’t just increase they shot through the roof today, Friday June 21st. This is not hyperbole. This is not exaggeration. They reached 25% when they were at their peak, and the only thing that calmed them down was the talk of a possible cash injection from the Chinese central bank. Rates dropped to 10%.

World War By Proxy: Russia’s Lavrov says, ‘will honor its S-300 missile contract with Damascus’

WEB Notes: Make no mistake about it, the failure of the rebels is by design to literally bring the world powers into this conflict. We see that happening with each passing day. Now the powers of the world are openly arming the rebels and taking steps to intervene with their own military.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Thursday, June 20, that Moscow will honor its controversial contract to deliver S-300 air defense missile systems to Syria. He spoke the day after the announcement that two warships carrying 600 Russian marines were heading for Syria “to protect the Russian citizens there” along with air force cover as needed. Lavrov told Russian TV: “We respect all our contracts and are honoring all our contractual obligations.”

“Radioactive-Looking” Sinkholes

WEB Notes: What is never addressed is the cause of the sinkhole. The infrastructure and the break up of the earth continues…
A hole opens up in the street and a fluorescent green fluid appears inside. What is that stuff? It sounds like a scene from an episode of The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, a Nickelodeon slime show or a toxic waste dump.

Russian Cyberspace Head Calls For Internet Kill Switch

WEB Notes: Everything happens for a reason. ALL of these leaks are not by chance or coincidence. They are all planned, for a much bigger agenda and this appears to be one of the reasons.
The head of Russia’s cyberspace policy today called for global governments to react to the NSA spy scandal by creating a United Nations-style body that would have regulatory control over the Internet – including a web kill switch.

Look at This Visualization of Drone Strike Deaths

(Video) – Pitch Interactive, a California-based data visualization shop, has created a beautiful, if somewhat controversial, visualization of every attack by the US and coalition forces in Pakistan since 2004.

The data is legit; it comes from the Bureau of Investigative Journalism, but as Emma Roller at Slate notes, the designers present it weirdly, claiming at the beginning of the interactive that fewer than 2 percent of drone deaths have been “high profile targets,” and “the rest are civilians, children and alleged combatants.” At the end of the visualization, you find out that a majority of the deaths fall into the “legal gray zone created by the uncertainties of war,” as Brian Fung put it at National Journal.

Bank of America whistle-blower’s bombshell: “We were told to lie”

Bank of America’s mortgage servicing unit systematically lied to homeowners, fraudulently denied loan modifications, and paid their staff bonuses for deliberately pushing people into foreclosure: Yes, these allegations were suspected by any homeowner who ever had to deal with the bank to try to get a loan modification – but now they come from six former employees and one contractor, whose sworn statements were added last week to a civil lawsuit filed in federal court in Massachusetts.

Dow Skids 200, Stocks End Down 1% as Fed Hints at Stimulus Slowdown

Stocks accelerated their selloff in the final hour of trading to end near session lows Wednesday, after the Federal Reserve said it will maintain its bond-buying program, though Chairman Ben Bernanke hinted that the central bank plans to moderate purchases later this year.

“They don’t tie themselves officially into anything but it’s clearly what they’re going to do,” said Jim Paulsen, chief investment strategist at Wells Capital Management. “I think he’s more clearly said today than at any other time that he’s going to taper before the end of the year, and there’s a possibility he could be done by the middle of next year.”
