Primer: The Sin In The Garden Of Eden

Primer: The Sin In The Garden Of Eden

Today’s verse of the day is Genesis 3:14-16. When you read these three verses, forget about what you may or may not know about this event. Just read those three verses and think to yourself, what is really going on here?

In verse 14, God told the serpent,

“Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle”.

Continue reading each of these verses yourself.

What we should understand is serpents, that would be snakes have always been snakes. They have always moved around on their bellies. Serpents also do not eat dust and serpents certainly cannot understand the speech of God.

So what is going on here?

We simply have symbology mixed with a statement of degradation toward Satan who is the “serpent”, (Revelation 12:9). Meaning, this “serpent” was to be lower than anything else on the face of the earth, “because thou hast done this”.

Done what?

You can read from the top of the chapter to find out, but we will provide some material in a moment.

In verse 15, God continues talking to the serpent who we now know is Satan,

“I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed.”

“Enmity” is “hostility”. So God is telling Satan the serpent I will put “hostility” between Satan’s “seed” and Eve’s “seed”.

What kind of “seed” are we talking about here?

In this verse “Seed” means, “posterity, child”. So we are talking about a “hostility” that would exist between the “seed” or “child” of Satan the serpent and the “seed” or “child” of Eve.

So far, just reading the verses for themselves we can see this is not that hard to understand right?

Of course not, let’s finish the last verse.

In verse 16, God now turns to the woman who is Eve and says to her,

“I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children”.

We can now see, the subject is children, the ‘seeds’ we learned about are in fact children.

In summary, our Father stated,

‘Because the serpent Satan hast done this… I will put enmity between… thy seed and her seed… and God would greatly multiply Eve’s sorrow and her conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children’.

We can clearly see the entire subject is around children, I think we all know how children are formed right?

Of course.

So why then would God be upset with Satan with respect to Eve and why are children being discussed? If you are asking yourself that you are starting to understand what really happened in the Garden of Eden.

I encourage you to take a deeper dive into this subject. We have Bible study on this subject titled, Adam And Eve In The Garden Of Eden. If you are not ready for the study, then take a couple of minutes to read this Bible Q&A on the subject as well.

  1. Brandon, are the days when the angels had their way with human woman the same time frame? In Genesis 6:4 the Bible speaks of the Nephilim, would what the serpent and eve had produce one? or did she not conceive? it sounds like she did, just something I was wondering..if she gave birth, what did Adam do?? did he accept it as his?? it seems like there are a few blanks left for us to wonder about maybe?
Thank you for giving me something to think about..
I so enjoy reading these articles, thanks for taking the time to write them..I sure could have lots of questions, but it is late so I will sleep on this..
    Sincerely, Rebecca

  2. This discussion IS SO IMPORTANT in understanding the truth! Thank you Brandon.

  3. You know Brandon, the first time I read these verses, very young, what I was told did not compute. I always got “hung-up” with so many reasonable questions (something as simple how the heck does conception and pain relate to anything). So, at 33 when I heard the truth, it was so obvious. Now, I would like to use what you said here,(copy and paste, not the last paragraph because some of my “friends” may hit your link hard and then who else they may know and so forth) to my FB. I can give you credit if you want, but rather than link in fb, I feel better limiting access to your site (or rather I would rather they find it on their own)……but I want the seed to provoke thought, to give opportunity should the seed sprout. May I or not? Your name credit or not?

  4. Nicely done Brandon !!, doesn’t get any simpler than that.

    • I woke up this morning and saw that verse and thought… You know what? Let’s talk about it without going deep. Hopefully it will/did help someone.

      • You know Brandon in my early days of my bible study’s, i always had question’s and the funny thing is they were always answered in a couple days or within the week, it kept me going deeper into the word, the Holy spirit gives unction and we respond, and so you did, someone does need an answer and you gave it and they will find it and they’re eyes will be opened, so doesn’t get better than that Brandon.

      • Thank you for sharing that Richard. Sometimes we overlook the obvious with respect to your account. Thanks so much.

God blessed (married) Adam and Eve and they were NAKED and NOT Ashamed. (Good). Satan knew he had to prevent a “righteous blood” son being born, so he seduced Eve in Adam’s presence. THERE IS NOTHING NEW UNDER THE SUN. Adam “knew” his wife and she conceived and bore Cain and….thanked Adonai as creator of life. LATER they became ashamed…LATER Abel was born. Cain like Adam never repented and followed after the evil one. Same punishment – ground curse for them both. BY Faith Abel was adopted.

      • Thank you for the comment, but that is not exactly right. I encourage you to read our Bible study on the subject. I left a link in this article, but you can find it here as well. Adam And Eve In The Garden Of Eden
