The mouse is what they call a “chimera”, a mix between human and mouse cells. The mouse contains 4% human tissue which is a record.
Science reassures us, this creature did not pass any human tissue to their reproductive parts which would be an “ethical nightmare”. You know, creating a chimera in the first place used to be an ethical nightmare. Now it goes on without much question.
The article points out, “detractors” think of the chimera concept as “playing God”. Of course it is playing God. There is nothing natural or remotely close to natural taking place here. Just petri dishes in a lab.
Ah, but the hope is one day they can use animals to grow human organs. Sounds humane. That way, they can speed up the time it takes for people to receive organ transplants.
Aside from “playing God”, what other troubles may come from something like this that we do not even realize yet? History is dotted with man-made disasters. Ideas that seemed good at the time, but turned out to be grave mistakes.
