I Am The Vine You Are The Branches

I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.

John 15:5

Jesus Christ is the vine, we are the branches, and our Heavenly Father is the husbandman who trims the branches.

We are the branches in the sense that our spiritual nutrients come from Jesus. That is how we grow and mature in the Word of God.

As we mature, our symbolical branches begin to produce fruit. Our fruit is symbolic of our good works, our good works for Jesus and the Kingdom.

That is our entire goal in life, to serve God, and produce fruits for Him.

If we do not produce fruit, we, the symbolical branches are cut off and removed from the vine which is Jesus.

However, for Christians it brings us joy to discuss the Word of God with others, and this creates fruit for our Father.

Maybe we talk with our family, a friend, or even a stranger about God.

Maybe we help those in need.

Those are all good fruits.

If you read John 15:1-17, you will notice that Jesus is very concerned with us producing good fruit. It is not enough that we are healthy branches, the branch must produce fruit, otherwise, the branch is worthless.

Think about that for a moment…

Now, I want you to think about a literal piece of fruit.

A piece of fruit contains numerous seeds, each seed within a single piece of fruit is capable of producing even more fruit after it matures into a branch.

Now let’s bring the spiritual aspect into this, and we can begin to understand why Jesus was so concerned with us producing fruit.

Producing fruit is equivalent to the Great Commission, (Matthew 28:16-20). Which states, we are to go out into the world, and spread the Word of God to all men.

For each and every fruit we produce, we are helping to create more Christians who will duplicate the good works that we have obtained through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
