Take No Thought For Tomorrow

Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.

Matthew 6:34

Jesus was simply telling us, there is enough trouble today, do not worry about tomorrow’s troubles. Yet, how many times have we read that verse, and how many times do we still find ourselves worrying about tomorrow?

We worry, we plan, and we worry some more. Oftentimes, we let the worry creep in so much that it affects the current moment we live in. It may put us in a bad mood, we may even ignore our family for a time, just so we can worry some more.

Yesterday, I saw an advertisement (of all things) that was extremely moving. It explained how we count everything in our life. People were counting their social media likes, their favorites, their emails, their weight, the days, on and on it went.

But the things we don’t count, are the moments we spend together with our family.

We never calculate that.

We never place numbers on that.

We never think, “I should try to get a few more moments in with my family today”, do we?

Those are the most important moments, those are the most important numbers. Yet, we simply take our family, friends, and life for granted. We are too busy being distracted by other things, and of course, thinking about tomorrow.

We constantly think how we can make tomorrow better for us, how we can control it, but what if tomorrow never comes?

You know, I have a friend. He was driving home from work one day, no different than any other day. But on this day, this one moment, his heart decided to give out on him, right in the middle of traffic.

That was not a part of his plan, he no doubt was going home to have dinner with his family, but that would not be his reality this day. Instead, his car crashed into several others, but thankfully no one was harmed. My friend quite literally came back to life after being dead which was a miracle in itself. He said, he feels ‘God gave him, a reset’…

I am sure he knows Proverbs 27:1 far better than any of us do, (also: Matthew 6:25-34),

“Boast not thyself of to morrow; for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth.”

Take no thought for tomorrow, as we do not know what tomorrow brings. That is why Jesus told us not to worry about it.

It is fine to plan your life, but do not become so wrapped up in your plan that you worry and stop living in the moment. Do not become so worried and concerned about tomorrow, that you push aside God or your family, because tomorrow, may never come…
