The Harvest Is Great, The Laborers Are Few

Therefore said He unto them, The harvest truly is great, but the labourers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that He would send forth labourers into His harvest.

Luke 10:2

These words by our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ have been on my mind lately. The Harvest He is speaking of is quite literally His return, the moment every Christian looks forward to.

However, before His return, we are told the world will be filled with sin, and right would be turned into wrong, (Isaiah 5:20-21). As the days pass by, we see these events come to pass, but I feel many Christians have become discouraged by them and have simply given up.

It is during the hour we now find ourselves in that we must make the greatest stand for God that we ever have. Though it may seem like the world is coming down on you and your beliefs, we, the laborers will not shelter down and close our doors.

The Harvest Is Great, The Laborers Are Few

As Jesus told us, “the harvest truly is great, but the laborers are few.” Each of us should do what we can to stand for God, and against evil. We all need to become one of the few laborers for Jesus.

Remember, Jesus Christ was crucified for His own righteousness. As the world hated Him, it will hate us for our belief in Him, (John 15:18-22). Do not let that bother you, that is a badge of honor whether or not you realize it.

With some of these thoughts on my mind, there played one of my favorite songs yesterday, “The Harvester” by Brandon Health. Brandon’s lyrics remind us of the Great Commission, and to prepare the world for the Harvest, (Matthew 28:18-20).

For me, the power of the song comes from these lines,

Let’s harvest this field
From sunrise to sunset
The Master is coming
We are not done yet

While Jesus Christ and His Angels will harvest the field which is the world, we as Christians are to continue working in the field for “those who don’t know.” Those who have not heard the message of Jesus Christ, those whose minds have been clouded by the darkness of this world.

The Good And Bad Seed In The World

While there is much resistance in the world in our attempts to prepare the harvest for Christ, that should not dissuade us. Jesus explained, He sowed good seed into the world (children of the Kingdom), but the Devil sowed bad seed (the tares)(Matthew 13:24-30, 36-43).

While the world, spiritually being the “children of the wicked one” may be stacked against us, we have victory through Christ, (1 Corinthians 15:57, 1 John 3:10). Know that, and understand that as a laborer for Jesus, we must continue to prepare for His harvest by spreading His Word. If we fail to accomplish that, there will be nothing for Christ to harvest.

We Are Not Done Yet

“The Master is coming, and we are not done yet”.

We have work to do my friends.

Be patient, ask God to send more laborers, and ask Him to strengthen you, so you can be one of the few.

James 5:7
Be patient therefore, brethren, unto the coming of the Lord. Behold, the husbandman waiteth for the precious fruit of the earth, and hath long patience for it, until he receive the early and latter rain.”
