Thy Word Is A Lamp Unto My Feet

Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.

Psalms 119:105

While waiting at a stoplight the other day, we noticed a lady walking her dog using the crosswalk to make her way across the street.

As her passing caught our attention, something seemed off about the situation. The lady had a backpack, an odd-looking dog walker, and a funny-looking hat.

As she came to the curb to step onto the sidewalk. The dog stopped, so did the lady.

Then I knew, she was blind!

The dog turned about 45 degrees and she followed suit. Then the dog stepped up onto the curb, the lady followed, and off they went.

Amazing!

We did not realize she was blind as she had no walking stick, and she walked with such confidence. Instead, she placed her faith in the dog, to guide her through the busy city streets. What courage.

As the lady and her dog continued down the sidewalk, we noticed the dog literally walk right on the line that separated the curb from the sidewalk. This ensured the lady walked on the right path.

Our light turned green and we starting moving down the road, but we all could not help but look back at the lady and her dog. We became inspired by her faith and confidence in the dark world she lives in.

As we moved further and further away, with our last glimpse, we noticed a pole in the middle of the sidewalk, but the dog was well aware. The dog broke from his firm line and safely navigated the lady around the obstacle and returned to his line.

God’s Word Is A Light To Our Path

How could Psalms 119:105 not come to mind at that moment?

God’s Word is just like that remarkable dog.

His Word will guide our path through life, through the ups and downs. Through the highs and lows, God is always with us.

While we live in a spiritually dark world, God’s Word is always there to brighten our path through life. Providing enough illumination to help us avoid pitfalls and traps along the way.

Yet, there is one if involved here…

Remember the lady and the dog?

She placed her faith, trust, and hope in her dog, and then, she grabbed the handle and let him lead.

We have to do the same thing.

We have to place our faith, trust, and hope in God, and then, allow His Word to lead our life.

To us, the lady lived in a world of darkness, yet her dog brought her into the light.

We may live in a world of spiritual darkness, but our Heavenly Father is more than able to bring us into the Light and guide our path through life.

As I put the finishing touches on this article today, I found a typo.

I spelled dog, god

Maybe it was not a typo after all.
