What You Speak In Darkness Will Be Heard In The Light

Therefore whatsoever ye have spoken in darkness shall be heard in the light; and that which ye have spoken in the ear in closets shall be proclaimed upon the housetops.

Luke 12:3

Jesus made this statement to His Disciples which concerned the hypocrisy of the Pharisees. Those were the good ol’ boys who always put on grand acts for the people.

The Pharisees walked through the marketplace in fine apparel, desiring to be seen and praised by men, (Matthew 23:5). The Pharisees were the same who put on loud and wordy prayers, and ensured when they gave alms, it was public to make a show before men, (Matthew 6:1-8).

They would even disfigure their faces, to make it appear as if they were fasting, once again, to put on a big display for the people, (Matthew 6:16).

Yet, that is not what we have been commanded to do. Those things are in vain, those things are self-centred and seek attention. None of those acts honour God. They simply display the character of someone who is pretending to be religious.

In Matthew 6:1-8, Christ told us never to do such things. In fact, Jesus said to pray in secret, and do your alms in secret, and you will be rewarded openly by God.

In today’s verse, Jesus provided a similar concept.

What You Speak In Darkness Will Be Heard In The Light

Whatever secret you speak in the ear of another, it will be proclaimed upon the housetops. Hey, we speak in someone’s ear as we do not want others to hear it.

Yet, Jesus is telling us, these secrets will be made public, known to everyone.

That’s a good reminder for those who like to gossip.

All those little secrets, they are going to be revealed one day. As Jesus said in the prior verse, “For there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; neither hid, that shall not be known.”

Every secret will be made known to all the people one day.

All the wickedness that has been perpetrated against the people will be revealed, including the perpetrators. Any wickedness that you have done, it’s not hidden, in fact, it will be revealed and proclaimed from the rooftops.

When will that take place?

Judgement Day

2 Corinthians 5:10
For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.

This will be the time when the Lord will “bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and will make manifest the counsels of the hearts,” (1 Corinthians 4:5).

We are talking about Judgement Day, my friends. The primary Judgement Day takes place at the end of the Millennium, (Revelation 20:11-15).

So if you are one of those people who think you are getting one over on someone, not so.

For all the wicked people in the world who steal from others to better themselves, it will be revealed, and you are going to pay a heavy price for your sin.

In fact, Jesus was speaking about the Pharisees, and their boasting of prayer and alms in the street. Jesus said, “They have their reward,” (Matthew 6:2). Meaning, they already received their reward in the form of their praise before men.

It’s going to be a sad day for people like them, when they stand before the Judgement seat of Christ.

Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen of them: otherwise ye have no reward of your Father which is in heaven.
