Greek Unemployment Hits New Record High, Youth Jobless Rises By 5% In One Month To 64.2%

The Greek economic depressionary catastrophe continues to merrily chug along. Hours ago, Greek Elstat reported that February unemployment rose to a new record high of 27.0%, with the January number revised from 27.2% to 26.7%, up from 21.9% in February 2012, and almost as if unlike the Greek BLS is not even trying to fudge numbers anymore and wants to show a deteriorating situation (or, as it was called in the Old Normal – “reality”).

Number displaced inside Syria hits 4.25 million — UN

The number of Syrians displaced within their homeland by the vicious civil war has reached 4.25 million, the UN humanitarian office said Tuesday.

“Movement by internally displaced persons continues to be large-scale and fluid, as many Syrians are displaced multiple times,” said Jens Laerke, spokesman for the Office of the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.

South Korea Joins Global Currency War, Cuts Rates In Response To Abenomics

Kenya, Australia, Poland and now South Korea. The country, whose net exports represent nearly 60% of GDP, and which have been deeply impacted by the recent collapse in the Yen, finally threw in the towel overnight and cut the benchmark seven-day repurchase rate from 2.75% to 2.50%, as only 6 of 20 economists predicted.

The reason the move was surprising is that just like China, which overnight reported CPI of 2.4% on expectations of 2.3%, the country still has pent up inflation concerns, however it appears that preserving economic growth and its export potential is more important to the country bordered by North Korea, than price stability. The result of this largely unexpected move is a strengthening in the Yen overnight, if only by some 30 pips in the USDJPY.

U.S. Calls for ‘Restraint’ Over Temple Mount

The United States on Wednesday called for both Israel and the Palestinian Authority to exercise restraint amid tensions over a disturbance at the Al-Aqsa mosque compound in Jerusalem.

“We’re concerned about the recent tensions surrounding the Temple Mount, Haram al-Sharif, including the detention today of the Grand Mufti,” State Department deputy spokesman Patrick Ventrell, told reporters, according to AFP, using the Muslim name for the Temple Mount.

Study: Immigration Bill’s Mass Legalization Would Cost $6.3 Trillion

The comprehensive immigration overhaul being taken up in the Senate this week could cost taxpayers $6.3 trillion if 11 million illegal immigrants are granted legal status, according to a long-awaited estimate by the conservative Heritage Foundation.

The cost would arise from illegal immigrants tapping into the government’s vast network of benefits and services, many of which are currently unavailable to them. This includes everything from standard benefits like Social Security and Medicare to dozens of welfare programs ranging from housing assistance to food stamps.

Recovery?: One-In-Five Britons Borrow Money To Afford To Eat

While GBP jumped and the world celebrated the UK’s recent avoidance (for now) of a triple-dip recession (defined on GDP as opposed to reality), the situation in the island nation appears to be going from bad to worse. As Carney takes over the reigns of this once mighty nation he faces a country deeply divided.

As the BBC reports, while London real estate prices smash old records, a stunning one-in-five households borrowed money or used savings to cover the costs of food in April. This is the equivalent of five million households unable to fund their food via income alone.

Gerald Celente: Middle East Out of Control

(Video) – Trends researcher Gerald Celente predicts war in the Middle East.  He says, “It is out of control.  What are people waiting for–an Archduke Ferdinand moment?”  Celente thinks Israel bombing Syria means World War 3 is on its way.  The cycle leading to war started with the crash of 2008.

Celente says, “Crash, depression, currency wars . . . trade wars and then real wars.  That’s what we’re seeing again.”  Celente charges, “This is a proxy war against Iran because when Syria is choked off, then Iran is left alone surrounded by enemies.  So, that’s what we’re really looking at.  The end game is Iran.”

Air Force: Strips Authority of 17 Nuclear Missile Officers to Launch ICBMs

The Air Force stripped an unprecedented 17 officers of their authority to control — and, if necessary, launch — nuclear missiles after a string of unpublicized failings, including a remarkably dim review of their unit’s launch skills. The group’s deputy commander said it is suffering “rot” within its ranks.

“We are, in fact, in a crisis right now,” the commander, Lt. Col. Jay Folds, wrote in an internal email obtained by The Associated Press and confirmed by the Air Force.

US to arm Syrian rebels: Putin’s rebuke, Chinese “peace plan” mar Netanyahu’s Chinese trip

WEB Notes: It’s well known these “rebels” are none other than Al-Qaeda. The United States has already admitted to giving them financial aid. The citizens of the US were told Al-Qaeda did 911 and fought us in Iraq so where is the outrage! We are now arming and financing our enemy? This is utter insanity. Isaiah 17:1.

Negative diplomatic ricochets are pursuing Israel in the aftermath of its air force attacks on Syria. In the first place, they are seen to have had no effect on Hizballah’s successful military intervention on the side of the Assad regime or the Syrian war at large. In the second, Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, while in Shanghai, was given a sharp dressing-down by President Vladimir Putin Monday, May 6, a warning that Russia would not tolerate further Israeli attacks on Damascus and would respond.

Benghazi “whistleblowers” head to House committee

(Video) – Hoping to funnel into one chronological timeline the rampantly varying accounts of how President Obama’s administration responded last Sept. 11 in the wake of an attack on a U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya, the House Oversight Committee on Wednesday will hear from three “whistleblowers” expected to offer testimony enormously at odds with the administration’s characterization of a strike that killed four Americans.

Testifying are Mark Thompson, acting deputy assistant Secretary of State for counterterrorism; Greg Hicks, former deputy chief of mission in Libya; and Eric Nordstrom, former regional security officer in Libya.
