Can The Day Of Jesus Return Be Changed?

Name: Amy
Question: Brandon,

I have a question. God is the only one who knows the day of Christ’s arrival. We are meant to be watchman but do you feel that day can change? If the world was to come together (I do not feel that would happen and lots because of the plan) but could it change?

Answer: Thank you for the question Amy.

The short answer is no. The day of Jesus Return is a fixed point in time that cannot be changed which we will document shortly. First, I want to cover some of your other thoughts that also tie in.

People Will Not Turn Back To God

The people of the world including our nation are not going to suddenly awaken to the lies and deception of this world.

Why do you think that is?

God told us in part, “In the last days perilous times shall come” and “In the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts”, (2 Timothy 3:1, 2 Peter 3:3).

This word “lust” means,

A longing (especially for what is forbidden): – concupiscence, desire, lust (after).

Instead of wanting what is Godly, people want what is forbidden or acceptable to the world. Things like sexual immorality, homosexuality, and now pedophilia should come to mind, considering the state of affairs today.

Interesting how these things surround sexual misconduct, the original sin in the Garden of Eden, “There is no new thing under the sun”, (Ecclesiastes 1:9).

The point is, read 2 Timothy 3:1-7. God said that is how it will be in the Last Days, the days we find ourselves in. Notice, there is no focus on God, so we know they are not going to turn back to Him, not as a whole anyway.

All Prophecy Must Be Fulfilled

We also know the day of Jesus Return cannot change as it would throw the entire Bible into complete disarray. We know all “the words of God shall be fulfilled,” (Revelation 17:17).

So all Bible prophecy must come to pass exactly as it has been written. If Jesus Return was hastened, much of prophecy would never come to pass.

In fact, this is so critical,

Revelation 22:18
For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book.

This documents how important and locked in place the Bible and all prophecy is. Prophecy validates the Bible by predicting future events. Further, God provided us with prophecy so believers can understand the future and identify where we are on God’s Biblical timeline.

Jesus Will Return At The Appointed Time

Before Jesus ascended into Heaven, the Disciples approached Him and asked, “Wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel,” (Acts 1:6)?

And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power.

Acts 1:7

As frustrating as that may be at times, that is how God wanted it. Nevertheless, this verse falls in line with many other verses that explain the same thing. God is not, and I will add, cannot lessen or lengthen the time until Jesus Return.

Let’s now solidify the point.

Daniel 8:19
And he said, Behold, I will make thee know what shall be in the last end of the indignation: for at the time appointed the end shall be.

In the prior verses, Daniel was shown the final events of the Last Days. We discussed some of this in “Daniel’s Vision: The Ram And The Goat.”

What is the “last end of the indignation”?

The “last end” is the end of this world age. The “indignation” is “God’s displeasure with sin”, His Wrath that will be poured out at the end of the Great Tribulation.

When exactly does that occur?

“At the time appointed the end shall be”.

For clarity, “appointed” means,

“An appointment, that is, a fixed time”.

This means, God has set an “appointment” for the end of this world age that will occur at a “fixed time” that is unchangeable, (Acts 17:31). This perfectly aligns with everything else we have covered.

Only Our Father Knows Jesus Return

Jesus has certainly foretold us all things, (Mark 13:23). Understanding that, I now ask you to turn your Bible with me to,

Mark 13:32
But of that day and that hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father.

Only our Father knows the “fixed time”, the day and hour of Jesus Return. Our Father is the one who set the clock, and He knows when the alarm will go off.
