Who Are The Elect In The Bible?

Name: Sharon
Question: Who are the “elect”?

Answer: Thank you for the question Sharon.

This is a subject that has been on my mind so allow me to answer your question from a couple different angles.

The Elect of the end times are the 144,000 of Revelation 7. There we read the end cannot happen until they are sealed with the Word of God. In this chapter, we are told this Election consists of 12,000 from each of the 12 Tribes of Israel equaling 144,000 in number.

Yet, I would not leave out the thought that a portion of the multitude in verse 9 could also take part in the witnessing of the End Times, (Revelation 7:9, 14).

I say this as the Bible itself is basically about Adam, his family (the tribes of Israel) and those they came in contact with. So naturally, we are not told of every detail of the other peoples of the earth.

We are told however, “whosoever will” in Revelation 22:17 and I truly believe that. I offer that as my opinion.

The truth is no one truly knows who the Elect are including those people who feel they are of God’s Election. The only way to know for sure is if they were told by our Father.

Concerning this angle, I would ask, does it matter who is and is not of God’s Elect, His Saints?

The Disciples puffed themselves up asking who was the greatest in God’s Kingdom in Luke 8:46. The obvious answer is our Father and Christ. We are all mere servants of the Lord and we should focus on that task.

On the other hand, we do know what the actions of the Elect are. Let us read of them.

Characteristics Of God’s Elect

Colossians 3:12-14
12 “Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering;”

13Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.”

14 “And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness.”

“Charity”, that is love.

Colossians 3:15-16
15 “And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful.”

16 “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.”

These can be tough shoes to fill, let us pray that we may acquire these traits and do our best to be an outstanding servant of the Lord, in Jesus name Amen.
