Nearly always anyway.
Last night, I was reading 1 Chronicles. God just got done telling David, sorry buster, you’re not building my house, your son is.
God promised that Israel would be blessed forever. But in prior chapters and books, we’re told it’s conditional.
Look how David breaks it down to Solomon…
1 Chronicles 22:12
Only the Lord give thee wisdom and understanding, and give thee charge concerning Israel, that thou mayest keep the law of the Lord thy God.
Solomon ended up praying for just that in 1 Kings 3:5-15.
David continues.

1 Chronicles 22:13
Then shalt thou prosper, if thou takest heed to fulfil the statutes and judgments which the Lord charged Moses with concerning Israel: be strong, and of good courage; dread not, nor be dismayed.
See that?
Later, God told Solomon the same thing.
“…if thou wilt walk before me… Then will I stablish the throne of thy kingdom, according as I have covenanted with David thy father, saying, There shall not fail thee a man to be ruler in Israel.”
2 Chronicles 7:16-22
Unfortunately, as wise as Solomon was due to God’s blessings. He still messed up, and he blew this promise God made to Israel. That means, Solomon voided God’s contract with Israel and everything it included.
We all fall short, Solomon was no exception. So always remember those promises you read in Scripture come with asterisks. If you don’t hold your end of the bargain, neither will God.
