Does The Holy Spirit Live In Us?

Name: Peggy
Question: Does the Holy Spirit dwell in us that believe in Christ?

Answer: Peggy, thank you for the question.

The Spirit of God is the Holy Spirit, and He certainly lives within us. Now, that does not mean everyone is going to feel warm and fuzzy all the time. However, it does mean, if we ask Him to enter our hearts, and we follow His Word, then He will be with us.

That’s a promise, (Joshua 1:9, Psalms 46:7).

Nevertheless, we are still going to have our ups and downs in life, but God will help us through those troubles.

The Holy Spirit

Turn your Bible with me to,

1 Corinthians 3:16
Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?

There we have it.

Christians are the temple of God, and His Spirit lives in us.

In fact, the Holy Spirit is the Great Comforter that Jesus promised us.

John 14:16
And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;

God’s Spirit is very comforting, and He will always be with us if we walk with Him.

John 14:26
But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

The Holy Ghost is the Holy Spirit.

In fact, the word “Ghost” and “Spirit” are the same Greek word which mean in this sense,

“The Holy Spirit.”

Not only does God’s Spirit live with us, but His Spirit will teach us, guide us, direct us, and recall to our mind the Scriptures of our Heavenly Father.

It is fantastic how we can diligently study, while asking our Father for direction, and He provides that direction, that is the Holy Spirit in action.

We And The Holy Spirit Live Together

Check this out.

“But he that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit.”

1 Corinthians 6:17

God’s Spirit, the Holy Spirit always binds us together, just as it binds the Father and the Son together. While we all have our own spirit, through the Holy Spirit we are one, being the many-membered body of Christ, (1 Corinthians 12:13-31).

God Dwells And Walks With Us

Now think about that for a moment, and consider the implications of it.

As we walk through life, we must do our best to abstain from sin. No one is perfect, and we all fall short, but when we do, we need to ask God for forgiveness and cease from the sin. God will not live in a sinful house.

Always remember that.

Therefore, we should strive to associate ourselves with believers who are a part of the many-membered body of Christ. Otherwise, we are communing with individuals who can lead us astray, and essentially, remove God from our presence.

2 Corinthians 6:14-15
14 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?

15 And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel?

Why should we not be connected with unbelievers and the sin of this world?

2 Corinthians 6:16
And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.

We are the Temple of God.

Not only does the Holy Spirit live in us, but through His Spirit, we are one, (1 Corinthians 6:19, 2 Timothy 1:14, Romans 8:9, 11).
