Where Did The Water Go After Noah’s Flood?

These two questions have troubled the mind of many Christians. Where did the water come from, and where did the water go after Noah’s Flood? The Floodwaters certainly did not become the ice caps at the North and South pole. If the ice caps were to melt, the oceans would only rise 216 feet, hardly changing our continents.

Oddly enough, young earth creationists tell us the water from Noah’s Flood is in the oceans of today. They explain, this was possible as there were no mountains or hills prior to Noah’s Flood. Their view is the earth was flat from a topographical perspective.

Young earth creationists explain, the mountains were formed after Noah’s Flood when they were lifted from the seafloor and rose above the surface of the water. They also use this reasoning to explain the formation of the continents, and how dry land appeared due to the Flood.

We must add, young earth creationists explain the water for Noah’s Flood came from a now former layer of the atmosphere, and a cavity deep within the earth. Considering the amount of water required for a global flood (29,029 feet, the height of Mt. Everest), this theory is simply impossible and not Biblically based.

Did Mountains And Hills Exist In Noah’s Day?

Let us open our Bible, and understand what occurred during the first forty days of Noah’s Flood.

Genesis 7:19-20
19 And the waters prevailed exceedingly upon the earth; and all the high hills, that were under the whole heaven, were covered.

20 Fifteen cubits upward did the waters prevail; and the mountains were covered.

The Bible clearly explained, “mountains” and “hills” or “range of hills” existed in the days of Noah. This documents there were mountains and hills far before Noah’s time, Psalms 104:8 furthers the point, and geology states the same.

The entire theory that mountains and hills which contain fossils, and different layers of rock rose from the seafloor after the Flood is not Biblical. This theory was simply manufactured by young earth creationists to fit their global flood narrative. This makes a mockery out of God’s Word, and has created non-believers in the process.

What Caused The Floodwater To Recede?

Though it is not Biblical, young earth creationists stick to their belief that mountains rose after the Flood. Further, they explain the Flood caused the formation of the continents which caused the Floodwaters to recede from off the land.

These are distortions of God’s Word, and blatant lies which include the history of the world.

The Bible never stated mountains were formed by Noah’s Flood, or their formation caused the Floodwaters to recede.

Rather, the Bible states God caused the Floodwaters to recede.

Please turn your Bible with me to,

Genesis 8:1
And God remembered Noah, and every living thing, and all the cattle that was with him in the ark: and God made a wind to pass over the earth, and the waters asswaged.

The Bible clearly states, God made a wind to pass over the earth which caused the waters to “asswage” which means “abate”, “cease”, stop.

Genesis 8:2
The fountains also of the deep and the windows of heaven were stopped, and the rain from heaven was restrained.

Noah’s Flood was not just rainwater, but water from the “fountains of the deep”. We are talking about natural springs from aquifers deep within the earth.

When our God brought about Noah’s Flood, He brought it from above and beneath the earth in a natural way, and He was the one who stopped it.

Genesis 8:3
And the waters returned from off the earth continually: and after the end of the hundred and fifty days the waters were abated.

Scripture documents, God is the one who stopped the rains and “fountains of the deep”, and He did that by sending a wind on the earth which abated the Flood.

The waters “returned from off the earth”, simply meaning, the waters dried up.

They “returned” back to the sky by evaporation, and were absorbed back into the ground where they came from.

Does Psalms 104:9 Refer To Noah’s Flood?

For the sake of being complete, young earth creationists point to a single Scripture to explain the formation of the mountains and hills, of course using a distorted translation of the Bible.

As typical, we will use the King James Version.

Please turn your Bible with me to,

Psalms 104:8
They go up by the mountains; they go down by the valleys unto the place which thou hast founded for them.

I did not read anything about the formation of mountains and hills, or them rising from the seafloor. We have to understand the subject, which is the “waters” of verse 6.

“They” is a reference to the waters God covered the earth with, not during Noah’s Flood, but during “the world that then was,” (Psalms 104:5-7, 2 Peter 3:6). The event being described in Psalms 104 occurred far before Noah, and Noah has absolutely zero context.

This is one reason why we must ensure we always follow the subject when we study the Bible. Psalms 104:8 is talking about the beginning of Creation, not Noah’s Flood.

In fact, Psalms 104:5-30 perfectly overlays with Genesis 1:1-31.

We will now turn our Bible to Psalms 104:5 to further our understanding of the subject.

Psalms 104:5
Who laid the foundations of the earth, that it should not be removed for ever.

The subject is “the foundations of the earth”. The very beginning of Creation, not Noah’s Flood. I want you to understand this verse perfectly overlays with Genesis 1:1.

Psalms 104:6
Thou coveredst it with the deep as with a garment: the waters stood above the mountains.

While our Father “laid the foundations of the earth” in the beginning, we should understand it “became” covered with the deep due to The Fall Of Satan.

It “became” covered in water which made the earth “without form, and void”, (Genesis 1:2). At that time, the water even covered the mountains. This documents the mountains have been in existence for millennia.

Remember, the event being described is “the foundations of the earth” and the destruction of them, not Noah’s Flood.

I will say it again, Noah has no context here.

Instead, Psalms 104:6 perfectly overlays with the events recorded in Genesis 1:2.

Psalms 104:7
At thy rebuke they fled; at the voice of thy thunder they hasted away.

In Psalms 104:5 our Father “laid the foundations of the earth”.

In verse 6, He covered the earth with water due to The Fall Of Satan in The World That Then Was.

In verse 7, God is now ‘rebuking’ the water. We see Him order the water away so the dry land of Psalms 104:8 can appear.

This event perfectly overlays with the Third Day of Genesis when God brought about “dry land”, (Genesis 1:9-10).

God Set A Bound That Water May Not Pass Over

Psalms 104:9
Thou hast set a bound that they may not pass over; that they turn not again to cover the earth.

While our Father covered the earth with water in Psalms 104:6, and we see it documented in Genesis 1:2, He set a “bound” which is a “boundary”. This “boundary” prevented water from passing over and flooding the entire earth again.

Meaning, there would never be another worldwide flood again.

Please turn your Bible with me to the Third Day of Genesis,

Genesis 1:9
And God said, Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together unto one place, and let the dry land appear: and it was so.

Psalms 104:9 and Genesis 1:9 record the same exact event during the Third Day of Genesis. Our Father simply “rebuked” the waters which caused “dry land” to appear.

“Dry land”, being the mountains, hills, and ground of the earth now became the boundaries to keep the waters from ‘turning again to cover the earth’.

Due to Genesis 1:9, we know there is simply not enough water to cover all of the land, and that is a promise from God.

This means, after the Third Day of Genesis, the entire earth would never become inundated with water again. This absolutely nullifies a global flood, as Noah’s Flood was thousands of years after the Third Day of Genesis.

A Global Flood And Science

Since young earth creationists attempt to use science to explain their theory, then science should have a say in the matter.

While the earth has certainly undergone massive changes during its history, those changes did not transpire during Noah’s Flood within a matter of weeks or months. Not only does Scripture refute these claims, so does the historical proof of our world, which is there for everyone to see with their own eyes.

Conclusion

As Christians, our love for God is great. Yet, that love should never lead us to blindly accept what others say, and cloud the Scriptures with uncertainty to validate our belief.

God is real. The events in the Bible certainly occurred. However, we must ask our Father for understanding of His Word to ensure our beliefs properly align with the rest of the Bible, and what we observe in the world today.

When we force Scripture to make it fit, we create contradictions in the Bible. When that occurs, we have erred as the Bible has no contradictions when properly understood. This is critical to understand, forcing Scripture brings about new belief systems that can and have led many astray.
