Bible Verses About Depression

Depression can be extremely difficult to deal with, much less overcome. Yet, as Christians, it is important to understand we have overcome all things through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

We do not have to bear the burden of depression alone. Instead, we ask Christ into our life, ask Him to relieve us from our depression and troubles. It may take some time, but He will help us through it.

God Heals Our Depression

God Saves Us From Our Depression

Psalms 34:17-18
17 The righteous cry, and the Lord heareth, and delivereth them out of all their troubles.

18 The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.

God is always there for those who love Him. Sometimes our patients will be tried due to this cold world, but through prayer and our faith in God, He will see us through our depression and troubles in life.

Not only does God stand for those who love Him, “the LORD is against them that do evil”, (Psalms 34:16). “If God be for us, who can be against us”, (Romans 8:31)?

God Will Lift Our Heads

Psalms 3:3
But thou, O Lord, art a shield for me; my glory, and the lifter up of mine head.

God is a shield of defense against a world filled with pain and suffering. In verse 6 David says, he “will not be afraid of ten thousands of people” who stand against him.

David knows our Heavenly Father is there for Him. We may have to endure, but never ever think God has left your side.

God Has Thoughts Of Peace Toward Us

Jeremiah 29:11
For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.

Over and over we are reminded in the Bible that we must endure. While God is always with us, that does not mean we never hit speed bumps in life. When you feel depressed or down, remember the book of James which tells us, when our faith is tried, it builds our endurance and steadfastness in God, (James 1:2-4).

God Strengthens The Depressed

God Will Renew Our Strength

Isaiah 40:31
But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

This verse ties right into the last. When we become depressed, God will be there to renew our strength. Think about the depth of this verse. When we have put everything we have into God and life, He will be there to renew and energize our soul when we need it the most.

Christ Will Strengthen Us

Philippians 4:13
I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.

We cannot do it alone my friends. We can, and should try our best, and then ask Christ to help lift our weary spirits. He will be there for us, that is a promise from God.

Our Depression And Weaknesses Will Make Us Stronger

2 Corinthians 12:10
Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ’s sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong.

While it may be hard to recognize the treasure in this verse when you are going through a difficult time. It is those difficult times that build and define what kind of person we are, and what kind of person we will become. Through persecutions, depression and other troubles of life, it builds our character, faith, trust and hope in God.

God Is Always With Us

God Is With Us Wherever We Go

Joshua 1:9
Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.

If we love God and follow His Word, He is with us no matter where we go in life. Whether we are in a dark cave or a lonely place in our mind. God can free us from the physical, spiritual and mental pain we suffer from. God can wipe away your depression, but it takes you as well. You must document your faith in God by keeping Him in prayer and asking Him to heal you.

God Will Not Fail You

Deuteronomy 31:8
And the Lord, he it is that doth go before thee; he will be with thee, he will not fail thee, neither forsake thee: fear not, neither be dismayed.

God is not only with us, He leads the way when we invite Him into our life. It takes effort on our part. We have to pray, asking Him for direction and comfort for our weary souls. Then He will be there to relieve our pain.
