Does Jesus Give The Kingdom To God The Father?

Name: Anonymous
Question: (paraphrased) I read your study on the trinity. I have always believed the Father and Son are two different entities. That leads me to wonder…

During the Eternity, when God Himself returns, what becomes of Jesus Christ?

Answer: Thank you for the question.

We know God gave His Son a Kingdom and power, (Daniel 7:14, John 3:35). God’s Kingdom is everlasting, (Psalm 145:13). Yet, we know God Himself will ascend from Heaven once the Eternity begins, and then He will live with us forever, (Revelation 21:2-3).

What else do we know about the Eternity?

Revelation 22:1, 3
1 And he shewed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb.

3 And there shall be no more curse: but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it; and his servants shall serve him:

Also: Revelation 21:22-23

Does that not sound like two Thrones?

One for the Father, and one for the Son, who is on the right side of God, (Mark 6:19, Acts 7:56). Just as we have always been told. However, the above verses will not become a reality until the Eternity. Today, it is a reality in Heaven, but not on earth. Not until the Eternity.

Jesus Gives The Kingdom To God

Turn your Bible with me to,

1 Corinthians 15:23
But every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward they that are Christ’s at his coming.

That verse is talking about the Return of Jesus which occurs after the Great Tribulation.

Now, read closely.

1 Corinthians 15:24
Then cometh the end, when he shall have delivered up the kingdom to God, even the Father; when he shall have put down all rule and all authority and power.

“Then cometh the end”.

Here we are talking about the end of the Millennium, which initiates the Eternity. At that time, Jesus will deliver up the Kingdom to “God, even the Father”. This word “delivered up” even means, “surrender, yield up, intrust, transmit” among other things.

So at the end of the Millennium, when God Himself has put down all rule, authority, and power that attempts to oppose Him, then Christ “yields” or “intrusts” the Kingdom to God the Father, (Matthew 22:44, Psalms 110:1).

This begins the Eternity.

The time when God Himself comes to live with mankind on earth, (Revelation 21:3).

Let us continue.

1 Corinthians 15:25
For he must reign, till he hath put all enemies under his feet.

Notice the conditional statement there?

Jesus must reign, “till” He (God the Father) has placed all enemies under His (Christ’s) feet, (Matthew 22:44, Psalms 110:1). We should also note, “till” can even mean, “terminus” which is “a final point in time”.

So during the Millennium, Christ will reign, and under Him the “priests of God and of Christ” for the entire 1,000 year period here on earth, (Revelation 20:4, 6). Until the enemies of God are destroyed.

1 Corinthians 15:26
The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death.

The White Throne Judgement has now passed. Satan, death, hell, and all wickedness have now been destroyed, (Revelation 20:10-11, 14). The Millennium is over, and the Eternity begins.

Now Jesus will “deliver up” the Kingdom to God the Father.

Why?

Only then will God’s everlasting Kingdom be restored to its former glory. That has been the mission of Jesus Christ. To restore God’s Kingdom to the former glory it had in the beginning with Christ, before the world was, before the fall of Satan, (John 17:5). It is still the same Kingdom that it has always been. The same Kingdom that has no end.

Let us continue.

1 Corinthians 15:27-28
27 For he hath put all things under his feet. But when he saith all things are put under him, it is manifest that he is excepted, which did put all things under him.

28 And when all things shall be subdued unto him, then shall the Son also himself be subject unto him that put all things under him, that God may be all in all.

Remember, it is God Himself who puts “all things under” Christ’s feet. That occurs on the final day of the Millennium.

Then, on the first day of the Eternity, ‘shall the Son also himself be subject unto God the Father who put all things under the Son’. That is when Christ delivers up the Kingdom to God the Father.

For what purpose?

So that “God may be all in all”. So that God will be over all things in all places. That can only be a reality when all enemies have been destroyed. Also, remember, Christ is subject to God, as Christ is under God, (1 Corinthians 11:3).

The Eternity will be the moment when God and Christ will once again reign over the universe without Satan, death, and wickedness. The way it was always supposed to be, even before the world was.

Conclusion

With this all laid out. I do not believe 1 Corinthians 15:24 indicates Christ will no longer reign at all. The reason, Daniel 7:14 which says of Jesus,

And there was given him dominion, and glory, and a kingdom, that all people, nations, and languages, should serve him: his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed.

This was given of the Father.

If anything, I see the Father and Son reigning together upon Two Thrones. 1 Corinthians 15:24 simply describes God Himself stepping into reign, along with ‘the Son who is subject unto God the Father.’

Also, do not forget God’s most faithful servants will also reign at lower levels in God’s Government.

Daniel 7:27
And the kingdom and dominion, and the greatness of the kingdom under the whole heaven, shall be given to the people of the saints of the most High, whose kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and all dominions shall serve and obey him.

Daniel 7:22

None of us take this to mean only the Saints obtain God’s Everlasting Kingdom. To us, it simply means they inherit a part of God’s Kingdom, they have their place in God’s Government.

Moreover,

Revelation 20:4
And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years.

Who sat upon these thrones judging with Jesus Christ, (John 5:22)?

1 Corinthians 6:2
Do ye not know that the saints shall judge the world? and if the world shall be judged by you, are ye unworthy to judge the smallest matters?

So once again, we find the Saints not only reigning in God’s Kingdom, but also judging it. Of course, this judging takes place during the Millennium. Don’t lose sight of that.

Nevertheless, in the Eternity, we find the Father, the Son, and the Saints all reigning together, in their proper order, (1 Corinthians 11:3).

What a beautiful time it will be.
