What Does NASA Mean In Hebrew?

This is a question I have been asked many times by those who believe in a flat earth. If you have any flat earth friends, maybe this will help them.

So here’s the deal.

Some Christians explain the word “NASA” means to “deceive,” “seduce,” or “lead astray” in Hebrew.

I will dive in on this in a moment, but the interesting thing here is, “NASA” is not a word, but an acronym for “National Aeronautics and Space Administration.”

Nevertheless, the idea they have is, NASA is a conspiracy to cover up the idea of a flat earth. In reality, there are numerous space agencies around the world, but that is not today’s subject.

Does NASA Mean To Deceive?

So why are some Christians saying, NASA means to deceive?

Some even attempt to link it to the original sin.

Let’s talk about it.

Turn your Bible with me to,

Genesis 3:13
And the LORD God said unto the woman, What is this that thou hast done? And the woman said, The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat.

Now notice the word “beguiled” there?

If you look up this word in your Strong’s Concordance, you will find it is the Hebrew word H5377 which means,

nâshâ’

naw-shaw’

A primitive root; to lead astray, that is, (mentally) to delude, or (morally) to seduce: – beguile, deceive, X greatly, X utterly.

Now let’s start from the top.

  • “nâshâ” is the Hebrew word.
  • “naw-shaw’” is how you pronounce it.
  • “Lead astray,” “seduce,” and “deceive” are some of the definitions.

Now “beguile” certainly means to “deceive.”

However, the Hebrew word here is not “NASA” or even close, it is “nâshâ.”

It has the “h” in there.

Unfortunately, someone outsmarted themselves and created a new belief system that a lot of good Christians have fallen for.

NASA In Hebrew

In reality, if we are going to try and find a Hebrew word that closely resembles and sounds like NASA, then it would be Strong’s word H5375 which means,

nâśâ’ nâsâh

naw-saw’, naw-saw’

A primitive root; to lift, in a great variety of applications, literally and figuratively: – accept, advance, arise, (able to, [armour], suffer to), carry, high, lofty … more

Note: There’s no NASA in Greek.

Once again, let’s start from the top.

  • “nâśâ’” is the Hebrew word.
  • “naw-saw’” is how you pronounce it.
  • To lift,” “high,” and “lofty” are some of the definitions.

So ironically enough, the Hebrew word that actually resembles NASA means “to lift!”

How fitting.

So NASA means “to lift,” it does not mean “to deceive.”

When I first heard about this NASA deceive thing, I became so disappointed with whoever came up with that logic to begin with. All this does is lead Christians “astray,” it certainly does not enlighten them.

That’s the thing, when you start going down rabbit holes, you leave the Light behind.

For completeness, here is a photo from my own Strong’s Concordance (ISBN 0-917006-01-1) in case you do not have one.

Conclusion

I realize there are a lot of lies and deception in the world.

However, just because someone claims to be a Christian and brings you something interesting, that does not make it true.

The best thing you can do in life is be a Berean, you know why?

“…they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.”
