A Nation In Peril

The United States of America was once a great and blessed nation.

Our nation was great and blessed when we united as a people, and placed God first and above all. Today, those days are a distant memory, only found written in the pages of time. What remains today are the remnants of our former glory, a decaying and hollowed out shell.

For years, decades, and generations, our countrymen slowly removed God from our national presence. We did this for many reasons. To conform, to be polite, to appease, to accept, and to ensure our political candidate was elected.

However, this never helped our national resolve, nor did it bring our families closer to God. It only ensured that our morality slowly eroded, a little more with each passing day. Perhaps, without us even realizing it.

Over time, we placed politics over God. For all intents and purposes, politics have replaced God. We unknowingly place more trust in our politicians, than in our Creator. If that were not a true statement, our nation would not be in decline, it would not be in decay.

For far too long, we have clamored to politicians, hoping they would save us, from other politicians. Our great national and moral mistake is nothing new. This happened to the ancient Israelites long ago, when they choose a man to be their king, instead of God.

Unfortunately, the political landscape has become nothing more than a team sport. Especially in the modern era. We have plenty of distractions and divisions to ensure we keep supporting, our team.

This riles us up all the more, ensuring we continue to focus on politicians and parties, instead of God. Never once in the history of the world did a politician save us, only Jesus Christ did that. Yet, we continue down the path of destruction, by fighting and fussing over who we must vote for come Election Day.

So, we fight and bicker, and fight some more over which political candidate should receive our vote. The same ol story we have repeated so many times before. Yet, nothing ever changed for the better. If we look at our nations modern history; our national debt, taxes, and illegal immigration only increase with each passing Presidency.

No matter who we vote for.

We quickly forget those details, or perhaps we never realized them at all.

We have become attached to our televisions and devices, to ensure we receive the latest updates on the politics of the hour. How the left said this, and the right said that. It’s all drama, like a soap opera from the 1990s.

With new found truth gently whispered into our ears, we turn on our countrymen. Then argue that we must support our parties candidate, regardless of their awry moral compass.

We are told,

  • This election is the most important in history.
  • We must vote to prevent the other side from winning.

Lines repeated every single election cycle.

Some of us have come to a realization.

We have drawn a line in the sand.

We have come to the conclusion.

“Voting for the lesser of two evils, is still voting for evil.”

God does not want anyone to cast their vote for evil. In so doing, we are rejecting Him once again.

Yet, the masses reject that notion, and they quickly rush to the ballot box, as if it really makes a difference. Then they shout down their countrymen who refused to vote, as if they are the real problem.

The Ballot Box

How we have become conditioned to the power of persuasion. We don’t even know how our election system works anymore. In fact, when it comes to the popular vote for President, our vote means nothing.

When we vote for President, we vote for the electors of our party, (Electoral College Fast Facts). If our party wins the state election, then our parties electors will vote for the next President of the United States.

Not you, and not me.

How many of us realize that?

Division

No one takes the time to share these facts with us. Instead, they remind us who the enemy is, and why we should hate them, furthering the divide. They forget that Satan is our enemy, and God is the only candidate that represents us.

God is the only one who can answer our prayers.

I can guarantee you one thing, God will never answer our national prayers if we continue voting for the lessor of two evils. God will not bless evil, He never has, and He never will.

Some of you are probably wondering how this ends…

Where does our nation go from here…

I want to share a story with you.

A Story

Thousands of years ago, God promised Abraham his descendants would become a great people who would serve Him in their own land. Hundreds of years passed before God finally raised up Moses, the deliverer of the Israelites from their bondage in Egypt.

God told Moses exactly what the Israelites were to do, and not do. What was a sin, and what was not a sin.

Unfortunately, shortly after the Exodus, the Israelites rebelled when Moses didn’t return from the mountain top when they thought he should. Moses was only gone for 40 days. In just 40 days, the people could not stay focused on God.

Instead, they replaced God with a golden calf, and idolatry that was common in Egypt.

The Israelites quickly forgot how God delivered them from the Egyptians. They quickly forgot about the many miracles He performed for them. They forgot due to persuasion and perversion that was allowed to creep into the camp.

God told Moses what was happening at the base of the mountain. So Moses quickly left the very presence of God to see for himself, only to find great sin before him. I can only imagine the disappointment of Moses.

God had just completed two tables of stone, the Ten Commandments which Moses had in his hands. In Moses fury, he cast the stones before the camp, breaking them before the people. Moses then instructed the Levites, the only ones who stood by him to destroy the rebels, and they did, (Exodus 32).

Israel would repent for their national sin.

It wasn’t long after, at the first sign of distress, the Israelites took their eye off God again, and began to blame Him for their hunger or thirst. God was proving the Israelites, to see how they would respond. The Israelites failed God again and again and again.

They even fought among themselves in civil war, which God endorsed to root out homosexual sin, and other abominations, (Judges 12:4, 20:14, 18, 23, 28, 35, 2 Samuel 18:7-8).

Though God walked among them, even in their camps, the Israelites still failed and forsook Him. All due to a hungry stomach or a temporary thirst. Their rebellions happened so often in Scripture, I truly lost count how many times they turned their back on God and failed Him.

And so it is today.

We have turned our back on God, as we focus more on politicians than on God Himself. We turned our back on God for reasons we think are righteous, but as a nation, we don’t even know the meaning of the word.

So I want to share with you how this ends, without national repentance.

A Nation Divided

Over time, ancient Israel became a divided nation. In fact, it was split right in two consisting of a northern and southern kingdom. The northern kingdom was called the House of Israel (Jeroboam), and the southern kingdom was called the House of Judah (Rehoboam).

Turn your Bible with me to,

1 Kings 12:26
And Jeroboam said in his heart, Now shall the kingdom return to the house of David:

Jeroboam was a politician.

The fact he said this in his heart means, he only made it known to himself. Jeroboam was concerned the northern kingdom would return to the southern kingdom. This would leave him without power.

1 Kings 12:27
If this people go up to do sacrifice in the house of the LORD at Jerusalem, then shall the heart of this people turn again unto their lord, even unto Rehoboam king of Judah, and they shall kill me, and go again to Rehoboam king of Judah.

Jeroboam was not concerned about God, nor the people he was supposed to serve.

Jeroboam’s only concern was himself, and how he could benefit, even though his decisions as king would direct an entire nation.

1Kings 12:28-29
28 Whereupon the king took counsel, and made two calves of gold, and said unto them, It is too much for you to go up to Jerusalem: behold thy gods, O Israel, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.

29 And he set the one in Bethel, and the other put he in Dan.

Persuasion, perversion, and lies.

Jeroboam did not take counsel with God. Instead, he took counsel with what we call campaign officials and staff. Jeroboam took counsel with his administration. In so doing, he built false gods so the people would not go to Jerusalem where Rehoboam was.

This was to save his own skin, to elevate himself without considering the people he was to serve. Instead, he convinced the people to accept false gods in place of God.

1 Kings 12:30
And this thing became a sin: for the people went to worship before the one, even unto Dan.

No doubt, the people probably thought Jeroboam did them a service, by making worship easier. However, they were not worshipping God, but false gods in the name of God.

1 Kings 12:31
And he made an house of high places, and made priests of the lowest of the people, which were not of the sons of Levi.

Jeroboam, the politician was only out for himself.

To ensure he wasn’t challenged, Jeroboam replaced all the priests of God with morally destitute souls that were sympathetic to his cause. Those of the lowest moral stature, those unfit to serve. Certainly unfit to serve in the House of God.

How would God answer this perversion?

Perversion that evidently was unrealized by the citizens of the land…

1 Kings 14:15-16
15 For the LORD shall smite Israel, as a reed is shaken in the water, and he shall root up Israel out of this good land, which he gave to their fathers, and shall scatter them beyond the river, because they have made their groves, provoking the LORD to anger.

16 And he shall give Israel up because of the sins of Jeroboam, who did sin, and who made Israel to sin.

The sins of the Israelites finally reached a tipping point thanks to their leaders. God would eventually remove Israel from being a nation, for good.

Jeroboam, the politician and leader of the northern nation chose himself before his nation, his people, and God. Jeroboam was only concerned with himself, and how he could benefit. Even to the point of leading an entire nation to sin against God.

In case you’re wondering, Rehoboam, the king of the south was also evil, and he led Judah to sin, (1 Kings 14:21-24, 2 Chronicles 12:13-14). As you can see, the Israelites had no choice between a good or bad king. Both of their choices were evil.

Now, which leader was the lessor of two evils?

God didn’t seem to think it mattered, and He sent Israel into bondage for their continual sin.

Conclusion

As you consider this, I want you to think about our nation today…

The only candidate worth voting for is the one who vows to restore America to her former glory.

  • The candidate who does not endorse perversion and wickedness.
  • The candidate who touts God above all, and who backs up their promises.
  • The candidate who discusses removing the U.S. from the U.N., N.A.T.O., and other world bodies.

If the candidate will not discuss these things, then they are not worth voting for.

What are we to do then?

We vote in our local elections, and higher, when the candidate conforms to God’s word. We get involved in our communities, run for office, and become a light within them, (Matthew 5:14-16). Without Christian involvement, darkness will continue to take over.

One thing is certain, as our national history and even Biblical history has shown… No candidate or politician can return America to her former glory without God, it simply will not happen.

As God’s word says, without an asterisk,

The God of Israel said, the Rock of Israel spake to me, He that ruleth over men must be just, ruling in the fear of God.
