47% Of Christians Say, We Are Living In The End Times

It seems certain, we are living in the end times as foretold in Scripture.

Yet, how certain is the typical Christian, and for that matter, Americans in general?

Before we provide those answers, let’s look at what we are facing.

America and our world have grown darker for generations now. As a people, spiritual decay can be found everywhere. As more days pass by, the spiritual rot continues to grow with no end in sight. Christians are taking notice.

The COVID-19 pandemic certainly did not help matters. In fact, in nearly a quarter of countries, “governments used physical force, such as arrests and raids, to make religious groups comply with COVID-19 public health measures.”

Spooky.

During the pandemic, Christianity abounded with Pastors telling their flock, “COVID was sent from God to judge man.” With Pastors like that, who needs evolutionary scientists to make us lose our faith?

Harsh.

The days are growing so dark, even the morally depraved pope has seen ‘omens of even greater destruction and desolation.’

Yes, beyond what mankind has already witnessed. Even beyond the health scare, and beyond overbearing government, we also have the rot of society, transgenderism, reverse racism, and other spiritual ills. Not to mention, we are faced with war, and financial ruin, again.

So these doomish never ending cycles lead us Christian folk into the Word of God. The events of our time certainly echo right off the pages of Scripture. With that thought in mind, I found a Pew study I want to share with you today.

Let’s hop right into it!

Do You Believe We Are Living In The End Times?

The Pew poll I found asked Americans, and specifically, Christians,

“Do you believe we are living in the end times?”

Pew found, “39% of adults say they believe we are living in the end times.”

I was blown away by that, I didn’t imagine 39% of Americans believed we are living in the end times. That means they must have some form of religion tucked away deep inside.

Fascinating.

How about Christian folk?

Christians are divided on this question, with 47% saying we are living in the end times, including majorities in the historically Black (76%) and evangelical (63%) Protestant traditions.”

Pew

I really didn’t know where this number stood nationally, now we do.

47% of Christians believe we are living in the end times. Interestingly enough, we hosted our own poll months ago about Jesus returning. 47% of our readers thought Jesus would return within the next 20 years.

Looking back at the study from Pew, they break down the statistics in even greater detail.

Get this,

“…adults in Southern states (48%) are more likely to say this [we are living in the end times] than those living in the Midwest (37%), Northeast (34%) or West (31%).”

Pew

The South, the Bible belt.

This was also an interesting bit.

Americans without college degrees are more likely than college graduates to believe humanity is approaching its end, as are Americans with lower income levels when compared with those with higher incomes. And Republicans and Republican-leaning independents are more likely than Democrats and Democratic leaners to express this belief.”

It’s always that way, every time I have seen these polls, that’s the stance of Americans. Let that sink into your mind, and always ensure you really consider what you believe.

  • Why do you believe it?
  • Due to those around you?
  • Due to your living conditions?

For what it’s worth, I can pretty much vouch for these poll results. In the travels of our nation, we have been all over the place. We continually note these similar instances of belief along demographic lines.

Ohh, here are some more details for you.

Do You Believe Jesus Will Return To Earth Someday?

Pew stated, anyone who answered the previous question, “Yes, we are living in the end times,” asked a follow-up question.

“Do you believe Jesus will return to earth someday?”

The results:

55% of American adults and 75% of Christians said this will happen.

But when?

Let’s dial it down some more…

One-in-ten Americans say they believe the second coming of Jesus will definitely or probably occur during their lifetime, 27% are not sure if Jesus will return in their lifetime, and 19% say the return of Jesus will definitely or probably not occur during their lifetime.”

Pew

How about the Christian folk?

I’ll reveal that in the third bullet point. Now, let’s put this all together.

  • 47% of Christians believe we are living in the end times.
  • 75% of Christians believe Jesus will return someday.
  • 14% of Christians believe Jesus will return in their lifetime.

Interesting huh?

If 47% of Christians believe we are living in the end times, why do only 14% of Christians think Jesus will return in their lifetime?

The answer is pretty simple.

Older people are more inclined to believe in God than younger people, (see: Belief In God Dips To Another Record Low). So a large portion of the Christians who believe we are living in the end times, are older people. They believe we are in the end times, but they’re not sure they’ll see the end of those times and the return of Christ.

Fair enough.

As I thought about these things for the last few days. I decided to put together a little something for you to think about.

A Math Problem: A Day With The Lord

As Christians, we are well aware of Scriptures like these:

Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts,

2 Peter 3:3

And…

How that they told you there should be mockers in the last time, who should walk after their own ungodly lusts.

Jude 1:18

And…

Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;

Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;

1 Timothy 4:1-2

You get the idea.

We see all of those things today, and they abound by the day.

However,

  • If we are in the end times, what is the duration of that time?
  • If we are living in the last days, when will they end?

I’ve known a few Christians who were certain, we are living in the end times. They were certain they would live to see Jesus return, but unfortunately, it didn’t happen.

So let’s put things into perspective here.

The Bible tells us,

But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.

2 Peter 3:8

I take that to literally mean, one of God’s days is equal to one thousand of our years. So I did a little arithmetic the other day.

I wanted to see how God’s days compare to our own.

Prepare to be humbled…

2 of God’s hours are equal to 83 of our years.

By the time God gets up in the morning, has a couple cups of coffee, eats breakfast, and reads World Events and the Bible, you were born and you died.

Humbling.

While we are sure and confident we live in the end times, we are also mortal men. We are men who can easily become subjugated to someone else’s beliefs (as the poll reveals). In turn, this can make us believe what someone whispers into our ears. In this case, we are living in the end times.

I still believe we are living in that time, but will I live to see Jesus return?

The simple fact of the matter is, we do not know how long the end times are. As mortal men, we see our world spinning out of control. Yet, recall World War I & II. One was over 100 years ago. In fact, the world has always been filled with death and misery. It’s the result of man without God.

So while you may also believe we are living in the end times, never stop living.
