Have you ever gone looking for buried treasure?
Maybe not, but you’ve certainly thought about it, read a book about it, or watched a movie about treasure hunters risking life and limb to find the mysterious treasure. People will risk it all for the potential reward of silver and gold.
Hey, the thought of great riches buried out there is simply irresistible!
Now, what if we put that much effort into obtaining wisdom from God?
That’s what these verses are talking about. The “her” being spoken of is “knowledge.” Not any kind of knowledge, rather knowledge from our Heavenly Father. We are talking about spiritual knowledge, and treasure is certainly involved, though it’s of the Heavenly variety.
Don’t look so disparaged.
The Heavenly variety is the best variety!
Jesus told us,
Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:
But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:
Matthew 6:19-20
How about that?
So one of our goals in life is to seek God’s wisdom. We’re to do that so intently, it’s like we’re on a treasure hunt, with God’s wisdom being the treasure to obtain.

There she is, there’s knowledge, there’s wisdom right before your eyes. You don’t even need a map to find this baby, Scripture just gave it all away.

All you have to do is ask for it. All you have to do is “fear” God.
Fear God?
I know, I don’t like that phrase either. I don’t fear God, not in the least! Never fear, if you’re like me, you’re not excluded. In this case, “fear” simply means, “reverence.” So we just need to display a “deep respect” for God, we need to love God.
Bingo, we’re in!
So you and I are in the hunt for the most precious treasure in the universe. Treasure from God that brings knowledge and everlasting life.
