It is being claimed that Pope Francis has stated, hell does not exist. I have seen commentators all over the globe chime in on this. Did he say it? Other commentators say, ‘then what did Christ die for?’ On and on it goes. There is one simple answer… What did God say? After all, it is His, God’s Word, not man’s word, so we should check in with Him for the answer…
Listen to the Word’s of Christ,
1 “I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.”
Not only does Jesus Christ believe in hell, but he has the keys to it. Which means He controls it.
Of course, for those who believe in Jesus Christ, for those who have accepted Him as their Savior we have victory over death as 1 Corinthians 15:55-57 explains.
For your own understanding, there is not a literal burning hell that lasts forever. The word “hell” is Strong’s word G86 and it simply means, “grave”. Christ defeated death, he defeated the grave and if we believe in Him we have as well.
Turn your Bible with me to,
1 Corinthians 15:55
55 “O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?”
“Hell,” the “grave” has no victory over us if we are in Christ.
1 Corinthians 15:56
56 “The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law.”
If we ask for forgivness of our sin, we are cleansed by the atoning Blood of Christ.
1 Corinthians 15:57
57 “But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.”
We have the victory over the “grave,” over “hell” through Jesus Christ.
Always remember that.
Heaven is going to be a fantastic place “and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away,” (Revelation 21:4).
