The Love Of Money Is The Root Of All Evil

For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

1 Timothy 6:10

This verse has always been true. The love of money leads us away from God. We become so concerned and preoccupied with making and managing money, that God moves from first to second place in our life. Sometimes this happens without us even realizing it.

That is why verse nine states, the “rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition”.

If we are not careful, the things that come along with having wealth can lead us away from God. Money can buy many things in this world my friends, but it cannot buy Eternal Life. It cannot pay the price Jesus paid on the Cross.

The Love Of Money

God is not telling us there is anything wrong with being rich. God has certainly blessed many Christians with immense wealth. God is telling us the love of money, when we place money above everything else in life, including God, that is when we fall into temptation, which can even lead to the destruction of our soul.

Having great amounts of money, means great amounts of time are required in order to manage that wealth. You can manage both, but you always have to focus on God first, and everything else second, never losing sight of your family.

Wealth And Power Corrupt

Remember, with great wealth comes power, and those two combinations always manage to push God aside. Wealth and power are great things to possess, if you are using them to benefit God’s Kingdom.

We have a great example of one who was great in God’s Kingdom, but fell away from Him due to his concern over wealth, power, and his desire to overtake God. I am talking about Satan.

We Cannot Carry Anything Out Of This World

The book of Timothy provides us more sound advice.

1 Timothy 6:7
For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out.

Truer words were never spoken.

We cannot take our treasures and wealth with us, whatever they happen to be. Maybe you do not possess great wealth, maybe there is something else you invest your time into instead of God. Your home, car, job, it can be any number of things. Take the example and apply it to your situation.

Do not trade sinful “pleasures” of life, which certainly lead to your “destruction and perdition”, for your Eternal Rewards in Heaven. If you won’t listen to me, perhaps you will listen to Jesus Christ.

Store Your Treasure In Heaven

Matthew 6:20
But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:

There is only one lasting treasure you can ever obtain my friends.

You cannot see it, touch it, or taste it. This treasure is in Heaven, it’s your name in the Book of Life. If your name is there, you will inherit all things, if not, whatever you possessed on earth will only be a distant memory once you leave this world, (Revelation 21:7).

So enjoy God’s Blessings, but never let money change you. Never let the love of money rob you of your faith, love, and hope in Jesus Christ.
